When I'm cruising (not accelerating or very lightly) I can hear a faint noise which sounds to me like a chain, almost like if you turn a push bike upside down and move the pedal with your hands.
Not a lot to go on I know but thought I'd see if someone here might have an idea!
Thanks
(2007 WRX Hawkeye)
I've recorded some audio of this happening - you can hear it clearest from the very start for about 10 seconds, I got it to make the noise non stop later in the clip but my mic must have fecked up
I'm pressing lightly on the accelerator to make it happen - I've listened to clips of drop links and heat shields but not sure if this is the same noise
Yeah it is similar to a ratchet getting turned really fast, almost like a chain that needs oiling - thanks guys at least I have some potentials to narrow it down
i had a similar noise and narrowed it down to a faulty cam belt tensioner.
you could only hear when you gave the throttle a light blip in neutral.
no noise when driving etc

Sounds similar, mine will do it light tapping throttle in neutral or lower gears
Had a mechanic I know take a listen and he said the sound isn't coming from the cam belt area so now I'm confused again! here's a youtube for viewing pleasure!
