Default Power upgrade

Hi guys,

Getting bored with the my99 turbo 2000, thinking of getting a Sti engine upgrade.

Any suggestions????
I wanna keep the classic shape, and rather than buy a newer car.
Just spend a couple of grand on the one.

That's a very vague post there fella. Is yours completely stock? Mileage? If nodded, which mods have you got?

£2k will get you a very basic engine rebuild with no mods.

Depends what you are after really.

Yeah sorry, was in a rush.
It's got a Sti top mount, dump valve and a back box.
Pretty standard motor!

Dropping a full fat STi engine into a turbo 2000 without doing anything else is not far off dropping a Rover V8 into a Micra.

It's not just a case of dropping an engine in and mapping it, you have to uprate the box and then sort out the suspension and brakes to cope.

For the amount of coin needed to get all that done it would be better to go and buy an STi with some good mods.

And for the engine's sake, get rid of the dumpvalve!

Sports cat and a remap is possible for around £600. Should see 260 to 270bhp then.

Decat, TD05, Remap - about the same price = about 320ish BHP.

They make your car run rich, leading to bore wash. Imprezas run so much better on the standard recirculating valves. They also make you look like a ****!

I don't get why ppl slag off dvs. If you can't have one on a Scooby what can you have one on. A dv isn't going to give you borewash.

I don't happen to have a dv, mines blanked off sounds better.

Obviously....your next but one sentence shows you have no understanding.

Correction: a Scooby HAS one, it's the recirculating type that doesn't make much noise, but DOES allow the engine to work properly.

You can prove this, or are you just saying so?

So....you like the noise but aren't too worried about the well-being of your turbo, then?

Best of luck.......

Running DVless hasnt ever been proven to damage turbos, unless you have evidence to the contrary?

And I agree about DV's causing issues due to the MAF sensor, if it was on a MAP sensor it would be okay

alcazar you need to chill out, really you do.

maybe a dv can cause rich running when changing gear etc but to actually cause damage via borewash, i dont believe.

i have been running dvless for quite a while and my td05 is doing just fine thanx.

I wouldnt run DVless on a MAF set up, it is a proven fact that it can bugger things up by giving incorrect fuel flows etc.

i run DVless on all my map sensored cars, and have no problems, the turbo gave up on the scooby, but that is related to age and launch control etc

depends on the turbo, surely?
But to advise DV-less WITHOUT stating that only certain turbos will be fine, is a bit irresponsible.

So......you accept that it will run rich on gearchange?

Yet it can't cause borewash, dilute the oil, burn valves, knacker the cats etc etc?

How so?

As for your TD05, it SHOULD be OK d/v-less.

Other turbos may not

Its hardly irresponsible, unless he is running a turbo with a ceramic wheel, which I very much doubt. (a'la r33 sky;line)

I am also running my Starlet without a DV on a TD04 the same as the OP has fitted to his subaru, 4 years and no issues. So how in this case is it irresponisble to advise that on a TD04 a very strong journal bearing type turbo that has been ran like this for donkeys by hundreds of people?

Irresponsible is leaving your little girl in a holiday apartment alone while you go out on the ****.

I dont think advising DVless comes close

Damn!!!!
All these arguments lol, I just wanted advice to get more speed!!
The td05 sounds good but which one?? 16g 20g??
I wanna get about 280/300 bhp without damaging the engine!
Also don't have time to read up and find stuff out.
Just wanna buy the parts, and get the work done with a remap aswell.

TD05 16g, you'll need a front entry converted one though. It's good for upto 350 bhp.

Best off going to Scoobyworld/Scooby Clinic/Andy Forest or somewhere similar. all do a good standard to 300bhp (ish) power upgrade. usually includes better air filter, sports cat full exhaust system and a remap usually for about 1k
