Was due to pick up my P1 on Friday afternoon after many months of thinking shall i or shant i? Told the wife last night that i was picking it up friday and she started to pack her bags. To say that we had a row is an understatement. We have spoke about it before and she was not ok with it but i didnt think that she would carry out her threat of leaving. If only we didnt have a 15 month daughter then she could have kept on packing. Had the awfull task of seeing my dealer this morning and having to cancel. Not a good few days so will have to mod my97 even more.
Regards stressed out Ian

why does she object so much?

My wife didn't want me to get a scoob...
she hated the idea of my buying another one after I wrote off the second one also...
But in the end she knew I wanted one so no point stopping me...

No car is worth it! Even if you and your wife aren't seing eye to eye, splitting up over a car wouldn't exactly endear you to the divorce courts, would it?

On the bright side, why not keep the current car, NOT put any more mods on it, and sepend the money saved on a P1 in a year's time. Your current Scoob has probably suffered the worst of its depreciation by now, the P1 is just starting to get hit badly.

Would she do the same for you?

Assuming this is only about the car ...

Invest the money you would have enjoyed spending on the P1 on alcohol/gambling/nights on the lash with the boys or something even more ridiculous

I've been on at my other half to change her car but she's happy.
That won't stop me changing mine once I've saved enough to pay for the depreciation on this one

Couldn't belive my other half.
Drove past and I wanted to pop in just to look at the new Scooby, not interested, just nosey.
She saw the P1 and said if she had the money she would buy it for me
Guess Ill have to stick with MY97 for a while longer.

Claire Raynor says that the car isn't the problem.
Don't get the car, and spend the money on finding out what is. Divorces cost more than Imprezas.

No offence mate, but its a bloody car! Just a car, and it isnt that good anyway!

Don't recall the saying to have and to hold till subaru do us part.

Sod the car. You would probably have divorced that in three years anyway. The wife is for the rest of your life if you are lucky.

PS. I am not married.

I could turn up in a P1 and my wife wouldn't grumble, but she probably complain about the depreciation.
However I would never spend 30k on anything without her agreement, (which does not neccessarily equate to approval)
Domestic harmony is all about compromise and understanding. Don't toss substantiall funds into projects that are not acceptable to both of you.
How would you feel if she arrived home with a 30k boat. Just get back to being a good loyal husband, and when she gets enthusiastic over an expensive purchase. Tell her she can't bloody have it untill there's a P! in the garage.

With my "better half" 25 years and have endless arguments over the Scooby.....

all about who sits behind the wheel

P.S Which distributor? Might be able to cut a deal

Thanks for all the comments. The main problem is that i came home 18 months ago with a subaru without really talking to her about it, and i guess she thinks here we go again. She is insured on the scoob and cains it as much as me, well nearly! She loves it.
The deal on the P1 would be through my business and my97 would be sold to pay my current loan so actually we would be better off finnancialy. She dosnt see it that way and thinks i love the car more than her!!!
Nuff said

Well Nozzer I got it the other way. Mine keeps saying don't get rid of the impreza but if you do buy a P1.
Can I expect a call from our dealer now telling me he has another spare P1.

Well, as you didin't say who sold it, maybe you havn't fully conceeded.

Why not apologise for not discussing it, ask her to sit down and go through the figures with you and say if she still doesn't think it makes sense you'll give it up with no hard feelings. (and say it as if you mean it, well you do don't you)

Make sure she's stabilised first though

Nozzer,
I went out for a drive in May 1997,in my £1400 worth XR2, came home and told the wife 'I've signed up for a brand new Impreza Turbo £21,000'
What !!!!
She didn't speak fully for 5 1/2 months.

Went out December 1998 to get my front pads changed, came home, 'I've ordered a MY99'
What!! (only 2 of these'!' this time)
Conversation resumed after a couple of weeks.

Went out one Saturday in February this year, mentioned I had seen a brand new (MY00) Impreza in Robinsons of Rochdale.
'Oh' was the response.
She went to work that Tuesday evening, comes home, I pipe up with 'I've signed up for another Impreza MY00 last of the old shape, couldn't let it go really'
Response was 'So long as we can go on holiday'

Difference is of course I am buying £20,000 cars, not £30,000 cars.

You could always try the holiday bribe.

We go to Scarborough.
Well you don't think I can afford the car and flash holidays, what do you think I am, made of money?

Good luck.

Cheers MTR

Steve at Tiley asked me to take the P1 out for a run but I refused I might have spent all my money if I did.
Mind you I would like to take one on an Exmoor run and pebbledash the front
Nozzer will you have the front sprayed now.

Try my way it works with my dragon.
Bitch slap her throw her on the bed and give her a full portion. Always works for me

Just noticed my Dragon has been on this thread show her how to use it once and you can't go for a sh!te. Take no notice of her with the lush dolly bird she's a 23 stone fire breathing dragon. See what she thinks of that

I'm crap at keeping anything from my wife; the policy works for us.

How about letting things cool off, then talking rationally about the finances, then taking her to test drive it? The other factor may be that you're going from a 4 door (practical for kids) to a 2 door (more difficult).

At the end of the day, it's only a car. I'm gutted to admit it, but I find myself agreeing with Adam M. However, if the move *is* a logical one and can be rationalised, she'll buy it eventually. Timing is definitely an issue, so it may be safer to drop it altogether.

Good luck on this one. My only useful advice would be not to try and keep anything like this from her and discuss before doing anything in the future. From my limited experience, it's about teamwork.

Nick (trying not to preach, honestly!)

Cool

Are you familiar with the Save Chip campaign being orchestrated by the Saturday morning football porgramme Soccer AM?

Basically it is now a nationwide campaign to allow a bloke called Chip to watch football as his girlfirend (Sarah) won't let him. The slogan is "Save Chip.....don't let Sarah win". Banners for this can be seen at sporting events all over the country.

Anyway, back to the point. How about...

"Save Nozzer....don't let Nozzer's wife win"

We could have car stickers, sun visors and all sorts....

As far as you bob, well there is no hope for you, Trica must get a lot of bitch slaps as your always out in the scoob. Go on get a P1, you know you want to.

Thanks all for your statements, it HAS cheered me up and at least we are speaking now. It is finnancialy better for us and hopefully in time she will see that. In the meen time, i'm off trying bobs theory!!!!

Cool

I discussed buying the second Scooby with my wife and there was no long silences afterwards..unlike when I just turned up in the first one, but then I only spent £8300..

I am sure you can be happy enough with an MY97...... or try including her in the decision.... which might be too late for this car but perhaps in a couple of months once things have cooled off?

£30k is a lot of dosh for you not to be agreeing on spending... unless 30k is only a drop in the ocean for you... I wish that were the case with me... but there you go..
I must be contracting in the wrong industry.

ho ho JGM
