Any of the newage sti engines except the 2.5. Speak to mattyb the breaker on here.

I guess you've looked into all ancilliaries and ECU to go with the new unit?

Is the 2.5 not even a option when its got forged pistons etc? Its got more power low down/what bhp you want?

If it's a "built" engine by one of the known quality builders then they are fine, there is a good one in the for sale section now built by Paul Finch for £2700 if your feeling flush.

The easy way is to use existing wrx heads and just bolt them to the sti bottom end, or you could do what i'm doing and use a set of avcs heads but you'll need an sti ecu and avcs loom.

I had a classic for 5 years about 4 years ago wrx i swapped that for a sti lump with the apexi fc was good, now ive got another blobeye this time not to familiar with the newage stuff, what ecu would be good if i found a complete sti lump to bolt in are the sti v 7 8 9 all have forged pistons dont want to go 2.5 stay 2.0 are there any to avoid or ones to go for that are better thanks jim

as a guide, we have a 2003 Blobeye which had £8k spent on it in 2009 and is now running the following

2.5 Sti bottom end
Reconditioned wrx heads
Uprated oil pump
New gaskets, seals, cambelt kit
Simtek ECU
550cc Pinks
Standard top mount with air intake temp sensor added
Exedy pinkbox clutch and lightened flywheel
CR Turbos TD05-20g
Remapped to 360/380 and has run that power for 11,000 miles.

Only thing we've noticed with the 2.5 sti bottom end is that it suffers piston slap from cold start but still runs/boosts/drives fine. Only reason we're breaking it is because the torque has finally taken its toll on the gearbox (lost 1st/5th) and the customer works away for long periods (hence the low mileage) so it ran out of mot/tax and they didnt want to spend more £ on it.
