Whats the best alloy wheel cleaner to use.
I,ve been using Auto glyms one but theres lots more to choose from

I have been told Wonderwheels is a lot more corrosive than the WW product. I used to use it and it did a good job granted, however I think I've read on here of damage to wheels with extensive use.

I got 17" gold mims on mine...
I used Autoglim clean wheels, dosnt seem to do much..leaves tar and the like behind,
try using the intensive tar remover, that works a treat, put it on with a small paint brush, leave for a minute give the tough bitz another scrub, wash off hey presto spanky spanglers!

When I bought my Superleggaras, Tyres Northampton said don't use products, just use soap and water - often.

Don't use wonderwheels Darren, it took the paint of my wheels.

I usually find that the combination of the right pad, brake dust barrier cream and normal car shampoo gets it all off

Oh and a decent wheel brush helps. Once clean wax the alloys to make life easier!

Been using Wonder Wheels for donkeys, also never had a problem.

But there again, I don't remember ever having any painted wheels before, so maybe it only affects them ?

I tend to use some truck wash, occasionally the sand blaster, angle grinder on the stubborn tar spots, 1500psi jet wash, then finish them off with an orbital sander. Perfect

I use Wonder Wheels good results on wheels, but took the paint off my brake calipers which have now gone from black to a muddy colour.

Any brand of washing up liquid squirted on directly, works better than any of the branded cleaners. Try it

WHEN WASHING

Use a seperate sponge to the one you use on the body of your car. Then simply use the sponge with soap and warm water, and have a "Reach" toothbrush handy as it has a slightly longer neck and is angled. The toothbrush is soft and will not damage at all, and has the ability to get where the sponge cannot.

Save your money....& its impossible to damage the wheels

I bought Sonax wheel cleaner as it was the only one that had "non-acidic" written in English on it.

My gold wheels are gleaming now and are showing no signs of damage after one use.

Does Sonax have a reputation for eating wheels?

I was advised by the 1996 Autoglym Concourse D'Elegance champion that Wonderwheels is the best.

It is outstanding on my MY01 alloys, just dont use it on painted wheels (like white integra alloys or gold wrx wheels) as it will strip the colour off.

I splashed a little bit on my front brake calipers and it did take the colour out of them, but get some Folitac caliper paint and paint the calipers (they have alot of colours) so they are the same colour as the bodywork. They look much better then !!

To summarise, dont get it on the calipers, brake discs and especially the paintwork !!!!!

Waxwizard wheek cleaner. Excellent and all natural products = nice smell no damage.

You can probably drink it, you can eat the wax, but I'm not volunteering.

I use Halfords own stuff on my 18's! Also occasionally Wonder wheels, but never leave it on there!

Used Wonderwheels on my Gold MIMS after the Ring trip when I had some serious caked on cack!

Took wheels of car to do (I like my brakes the colour they are) and made sure I followed the Instructions.

Worked a treat... lovely shiny wheels now.

After, I gave the wheels a good coat of Polish, so now, dust washes straight off.

So basically, Wonderwheels once in a blue moon when normal washing doesnt cut it. Car shampoo and sponge all other times

Another happy wonderwheels customer here. Used for 3 years on silver Puma alloys with no problems. They will however fadge any painted alloys due to the hydrochloric and phosphoric acid that is contained in the solution!

They've launched a load of new products to and if they are as good as the wheel cleaner, they should be worth a look.

Have you ever got wonder wheels on an open cut ?? That is corrosive - had to get new Integra wheels (under warranty ) after using it.........

Have to agree with Bugwaans way. Its the safest, especialy for painted wheels, but with waxing, once every 6 weeks,as it helps with the cleaning of the wheels in between

DON'T DON’T use any wheels cleaners other than Wax Wizards, they knacker your wheels!!


You wouldn't put Wonder wheels or other on your body work paint would you, so why on your tasty wheels.


USE WW wheel cleaner, then Clay Bar for the really difficult tar and brake dust then regularly wax them.

My wheels are perfect, the dirt just wipes off even hot brake dust after tracks days, just wipes off.
