Default Mods and BHP from a VF37

Just a quick sort of question, having recently purchased a nicely nearly standard blob jdm sti a couple of months ago (other then a remap for UK fuel) I am looking to change a few things to eek a bit more power out of it.

Whats the general sort of output from a VF37? I do not want to change the TMIC, OEM Recirc Valve or the standard air box.

I am planning on just an uprated panel filter, full 3" decat and a remap. I have read about the VF37 needing an uprated actuator? is this just a myth or is this worthwhile doing before a remap also?

Fairly new to JDM having had only a UK car before so any advice appreciated

To be honest stonejedi I am not really heartset on figures, the car is massively better then my previous UK blob sti even as standard! so much more confidence in it and the extra powerband and gear ratios makes it a hoot to drive!

Somewhere around the 330-340 mark would be a nice drive, just wondering if I should consider any other parts or upgrades before the remap.

I have got the handling bits being done separately. Thanks for the reply.

What turbo comes as standard the VF35?if so you will be fine as that turbo can reach those figures,by the sounds of it your looking to keep the engine bay standard looking if so just keep to the mods that you have already planed, performance filter etc....SJ.

300-400 bhp turbo,I had your same dilemma about keeping everything looking standard, but still producing the goods, trust me in the search for power nothing never stays standardthe top mount can produce good power but it is in the wrong place for temps.i measured mine before on a hot day in traffic I could fry eggs off of it.SJ.

Thanks Stonedjedi,

Hi Chet, hows it going mate, yes got rid of the car (unfortunately), had an SC38 on it, the car itself is now doing the rounds, had 4 different owners since i sold it! Unsure if it has been loved as much as when I had it.

Back now but in a JDM, so starting all over again really lol. Have to be honest, I am massively impressed with the JDM, its in a different league to the UK car i had previously (even with it being nearly completely standard!)

yeah Im good mate. funny you should ask my engine is currently being forged due to not making the expected power. leak down test confirmed and on diagnosis the valves were responsible but may also replace pistons, rings, etc etc. I'm learning parts of the engine I thought wouldn't have had too.
At the same time a new MD321H will be on the cards.

A lot of people say the JDM twin scrolls are miles apart from the type UK.
Clearly your type UK was well spec'd which is probably why it has gone through several hands, therefore capable of selling on.

good stuff chet, will be nice and reliable after that I am sure! mine had worn valve seats and low compression hence the rebuild I had.

Thanks Mr Burns, much appreciated

Just quickly what did you have rebuilt/upgrades too. Sounds similar to the problem I've got. Been told valves are common on the 2litres.

What did you have changed and what to? Ta

yea, it was suspected to have been run on poor fuel or had a bad life previous

Had it rebuilt, block machined, cosworth HG, mahle pistons, manley rods and ACL bearings, didnt go for the crank/stroker. Was a great engine after, quiet as anything and didnt use a drop of oil between services!
