Default Won't rev over 5500

Evening.

New to this site and new to scoobys. I've previously raced a saxo vts quite successfully and felt it was time to upgrade to the next league.

I have procured a 2001 2.0 WRX which has a small gremlin.

It feels like its hitting the rev limiter at 5500. It sort of pulls i to the turbo from nearly 4. Then flat spots and pulls to 5.5 then bounces.

After extensive research. I've reset the ECU using my diagnostics tool. No luck. Reset on the ole wives tale of disconnecting the negative over night (bit convinced that does anything to be honest).

I've replace all 4 coil packs.

I've set all spark plugs (new from a service in Jan by previous owner) to the correct gauge.

I've cleaned and checked all pipe work to the boost solenoid.

Still no fix.

Today I noticed that one of the connectors under the solenoid housing was unconnected. So I hooked this back up and bingo 4 fault codes. 2 pointing to cylinder 1 and 2. 1 to the knock sensor and 1 to the O2 sensor.

I've ordered a new knock. A new O2 sensor.

If this doesn't fix it I will be at a loss.

Any other suggestions.

Note the car was cheap (but very clean). Bare in mind I will be hitting it to race prep and standard as soon as I can track it to check performance. It has 162k on the clock. All pretty standard except a dump valve.

Any suggestions greatly received

02 sensor is my guess could also be crank position sensor.....I'm sure there's two 02 sensors.

Is your OBDII reader not showing any codes?

Ditch the dump valve as well only hinders the running

Could be anything from fuel pump to something really expensive such as a cylinder head failure.

You may have been had if someone's disconnected that to hide a fault.

If your latest idea doesn't work you could end up chucking a lot of money at it before you get lucky, I'd take it in to a specialist get looked at.

It showed no fault codes unit I plugged the O2 sensor back in. I can't be certain it's not a head failure. However it runs like a dream right up to when you reach that 4.5 flat spot then the 5.5 limiter bounce. It also sounds like it's not burning all the fuel.

As per the previous post. I already considered ditching the valve.

So. I've replaced the knock sensor and the O2 sensor. I've also run every combination of sensors new and old.

Still it will not rev over 5500. FRUSTRATING.

Anybody have any other suggestions ?? I'm thinking possibly a broken manafold or buggered turbo. Only slight doubt is that it runs beautiful upto 5k.

There is a small wire set running from near the boost solenoid to what would appear to be a small sensor at the bottom of the turbo. It looks like the previous owner has buggered around with this wiring. Anybody know what this goes too? It's not the solenoid wiring or the O2 wiring.

Problem solved. It's the sensor near the cat. Take sensor out. Smash cat out. Replace and bingo

Tracked it yesterday and it was Amazing.

However. It's not blown an oil seal or gasket. Oil all over the engine bay. Guess this will be a labour of love.
