Default Project advice needed.

I'm after some advice for my future self build. I had planned on using my current daily drive (blob WRX running 346/330) but I'm having second thoughts.

Looking around at the cost of classic rolling shells I'm wondering if money would be more wisely spent buying a straight classic STI? I realise classics are a lighter car and buying an STI would give me a good block to start with compared to my current WRX block.

I don't have a fixed number for the budget, which I know helps, it's going to be an on-going project so time isn't really an issue. Power wise I'd like a strong 450-500 with torque to match. Would a newage 6 speed cope with said power figures or would I be looking in to the realms of PPG?

I'll be looking to use the car for hill climb events and sprints.

All help apriceated

Sounds like a classic 2 door shell is a much better starting point for you, especially if you keep your blob wrx as your day to day runabout as the compromise of build for your track car could be zero road compromised.

6 speed will be fine with that (and more) ..... think theyre a better bet than the PPG's as theyre still in the standard flexible 5MT casing.

a newage sti engine and box will take 450 bhp without issues, may need a new clutch and obviously turbo etc to get to 450 but id say its the cheapest starting point just to buy a bug/blob sti

Straight classics are few and far between. Take your time they are out there.
450-500 ain't gonna be cheap. I'm going down the route of early 300's in a classic ra, should be more than fast enough

A 450 bug STI sounds like a sturdy starting point, ie going by the strength of the box and lump. Does anyone know what sort of weight you can get newages down to? I've seen classics down to 1000kg ie AF's monster but not heard figures on newages. The only blobeye I know racing is Dave coes in TA but don't know the figures.
