Default JT/EMS 2.35 NL TA Build

Hi guys!

First of all, excuse me if you will find my language/spelling etc incorrect: as a matter of fact I am Russian BUT I have lived in The Netherlands for almost 11 years. Yep, a foreign project

So let's get started

My name is Misha, just turned 22 last week (11/11) and in my daily life I do too much things to get them done within 24 hours even if I'd have no sleep. I am a third year student of Business&Management at Tilburg University, but unfortunately things got out of hand last year and you can call me a second year student. Seems bad, but it gave me the opportunity to buy my Impreza (work>study). Anyway, let's skip that part and get back on topic again.

As a matter of fact, this is my first car. Why, would you ask? Well, if you do so, then I am wondering what you are doing here Imprezas just kick ***. Period.

So, what do we have to deal with here?

A nice GC8 MY00, one of the finals as a matter of fact (production was closed 3 months after mine was produced). I bought it like this:

Some minor mods were installed on it:

Magnex full exhaust, EcuTek, Forge BOV and Koni shocks. Overall it gave something between 270 and 290 horses and some nice flames!

The car participated in 2011 ModBall rally from London to Geneva, that explains the stickers (&pics in London). Another explanation is that previous owner worked with me at the sticker company named StickerDUMP.com.

First day: off to carwash & removing fugly stickerbombing

And a few weeks later, after spending over 8 hours and destroying 4 fingernails I got all the stickers removed:

Then the sh*t started to get out of hand... Dreams started to knock on my door to become reality: the modding part began.

First some ICE:

Then, my brake pads needed a replacement and so I did:

K-Sport x8 330 front and x4 330 rear + Track Coilovers.

To improve my handling even further, I installed nearly every part from whiteline catalogue, but have not much pics of it

For the safety aspect I got myself a set of Cobra Suzuka Pro buckets & QSP belts:

Not so long after I bought the Impreza, I booked a racing driver course to get to know & to expand my and my car's limits. And since I started to understand that eventually I will end up racing with it I purchased some other nice upgrade:

Racing Technology Dash2 & Data logger

Another upgrade that adds 10 horsepower

Not really, but he warns me on time if cops start tailing me.

Well, 2 weeks before my racing lessons I had an accident on a roundabout that costed me some new whiteline goodies and a set of rims.

BBS replaced the Rota's

And then the fun part started, on 2nd of November I had my first day of racing driver lessons on the circuit of Assen TT:

(SpongeBob quitted his job after few months and got replaced by Eeyore)

and some local Dutch forum member came by:

Here you can see a short fragment of my "get out the way, Impreza coming through!!"-driving during the lessons (filmed from inside of other car, you can see me catch up during first meters):

I had to start in the back, but I soon I regained my leading position

On the last day I became overenthusiastic with powerslidings and I hit a tirewall, as a matter of fact, you still can see the tires on my door .

I can go cry about it, but hey, I took the risk and now I have to take the responsibility. Furthermore, I saw a few people crash more badly into the wall, so this is not such a tragedy. To conclude, again: I can cry about it, but I prefer to laugh about is, so I placed some plasters on my baby (big thnx to stickerdump.com again), I hope she gets well soon!

This was not the only damage, since I was asked to push it to the limit, I pushed, pushed and squeezed out my third gear Luckily, this happened after the exam, so I could obtain my racing licence! Luckily 2: I already had bought a 6 gear box with a twinplate exedy a few months ago, but I waited with installing it before I would start with a new engine.

A new engine... Well, last Saturday I went to EMS in Holland and placed a 75% deposit. You will get the full list of specs soon, but here is a preview:

In the beginning I wanted to go for a pinned 2.5, but then I was offered a 2.35 for nearly the same price (project stop). (To be honest I was trying to buy a yummie 2.35 Lateral Engine here on the forum a few months ago, but suddenly it was "sold", apparently the seller did not take my offer to serious )

What are my plans with it? Time-Attack in Holland I will probably racing for Jeroentje.nl Tuning team, since they did all the work on my car so far, so you can make a predictions on my car's future styling:

Finally here are some final pics that were taken yesterday during a JDM "Wangan Warriors Meeting"

I thank you all who have read this thread completely, excuse me if I forgot something and I will be glad to receive comments, questions and suggestions

P.S. if you don't find that awkward, then you can become friends with me on
Facebook Post
, all the updates pop up there first among with other bullsh*t such as carwash trips

03-12-11

Time for pics!

I visited EMS tuning today to place (hopefully) the last deposit for the engine(ering) costs. I borrowed my girlfriends dslr cam, but I should have spent a few moments beforehand practicing it... so pics turned out a bit blurry. But hey, at least you have something for the weekend...

APS FMIC:

Complete new 2.35 engine, it will be disassembled since we need to place Arrow crank in it (2.5 STI crank chills there now) and convert it to 14mm head studs. Furthermore it has (as already described above) Pauter rods, CP pistons and other modifications already placed.

Perrin GT35 kit... This is however a GTX30 version of it and is someone else's, thats why still wrapped. Of course, I will post pics of mine too, as soon as it arrives.

Oil cooler, again not mine (will be probably slightly bigger), but you get the idea.

6 speed gearbox and Exedy Twin plate clutch.

Cusco engine mounts

Thanks for your attention and enjoy your weekend!

21-12-11

Just received some pics from EMS (shop responsible for the engine build), they received some new parts for my build today:

14mm headstuds vs "stock" 11mm ARP

Arrow crank, this baby will allow me to run up to 9000 RPM!:

2000cc ID

07-01-12

Yesterday, the build has officially begun: the car is delivered to Jeroentje.nl Tuning who is going to strip and delete nearly everything (even heater etc), install a cage and other necessary ancillaries such as fire extinguisher, kill switch etc. But first, he will remove the engine and bring it to EMS (company responsible for 2.35 build) so they can work further on it (install intake, heads, etc). I just cant wait...

There are some other updates too: As you might have read, I bought a 6spd box a few months ago, but the thing is, it was still mounted on a car when I bought it. A few days ago, I received an email from EMS: Surprise, the box has DCCD installed, but we never knew it, since it was never connected. Aint that cool? Bad *** drifts are coming!

I am also going to put some wide rims/tyres under it to get better grip, I am thinking of 18x9.75 XXR527 rims with 275 R888 (Yup, we'll need some arch extensions!). Or do you think it will be an overkill? There will be enough power though...

Finally, here is the cage design:

Some extra pics:

09-01-12

Awesome update!
Tomorrow we are going to pick some some beaut'!

And just to justify my decision (so you wont think that I throw with money without thinking): I need a cage for TA, and it would cost me €1900 (only the cage, ex additional labour)... this body has: 22B bumpers, fiberglass panels, cage, licence plate and its a 2-(non dented)door... I could take it for... wait for it.... €2250! I can even make my own Impreza stock again and sell it.

Some updates:

Made some renderings in Forza 4, dont mind every single detail
Server was down during second version, thats why we had to use mopho.

Second version (22B bumpers, another spoiler, golden rims, edited decals)

Further development:

Making space for 285/18:

Finishing the firewall:

Some updates: working further on the wheel arches:

Lightweight Upgrade:

Some updates:

Removing aftermarket stuff from my "old" Impreza:

Modifying wheel arches:

Fitting body kit

Modifying the loom

Some welding on the arches

Removing the fuel door

Just received some pics from EMS:

Again some updates:

Some progress we made for the past few days:

Placed steering rack:

Put on wheels:

How it was before (we used the same old shocks on the new one):

Welded antenna hole

Modified the trunk (spare wheel)

Space for diffusor:

Fixed the front bumper, this one was messed up by the previous owner:

Got new rims (Rota Torque Bronze 18x9.5)

Old vs New:

Lugnuts:

Rims fitted:

Received some box too, I wonder what it contains...

Another box!

Seems legit...

Unwrapping...

Still not there..

Finally!

Some fitting:

We are going to make another higher "feet" ourselves, because we find these not high enough.

Finished the trunk bottom:

Some cosmetic adjustments:

Made a bracket for the rear bumper:

Finally some decent pics!

A good friend of mine dropped by today with a decent DSLR.

Me working on the front bumper:

Random:

Jeroen puzzling the loom

Spoiler:

Another update: my 275 R888 are delivered and tomorrow they will be fitted.

Some bonus pics of our EVO VIII:

Todays update: huge *** wheels and some other stuff.

First of all, the comparison of new vs old:

They look a lot bigger IRL actually!

Pics of them wheels mounted:

The panels needed some adjustments, maestro taking care of it:

Something else, the loom is almost ready:

Fitted the seat:

And finally, I received a package today with a misspelled name.

Luckily it was no cat food but a Zeitronix E85 controller!

Unfortunately we're getting a bit off schedule now (We wanted to bring her to the paintshop tomorrow, but we need some extra time for additional adjustments + fiberglass doors still have not arrived yet.

Did some further mods today for them wheels:

The progress:

Wheel arches are finished:

Some cosmetic adjustments:

The front bumper refused to cooperate, so we had to use violence...

Some impression pics:

Extra pics of the huge wheels:

Bonus:

A featherweight upgrade for today!

What will it be?

Fiberglass doors!

The body is finally complete now and is able to get painted.

Some adjustments...

As if its OEM!

You might be wanting to know how much OEM door weights?

This is however a "complete" door, with window and mechanics in it still fitted. My new doors will get Lexan windows however, so I hope to compensate the extra weight of the rollcage in the end anyways.

Finally we've put the baby 3cm lower to the ground.

Thats it! There might be a minor update on Saturday, but this will be the day when the body will get transported to the paintshop... FINALLY! Then you'll have to wait until further updates...

Yesterday it finally has come so far: off to the paint shop!

I borrowed a set of "matte black rims" from my "ex girlfriend"

The difference!

YOOO!

And off she goes...

Hard to think that we've picked her up like this exactly a month ago:

I would like to thank JT and everyone else who has made this possible.

End of chapter...

Just returned from my holiday in my hometown Moscow, bought some stuff there:

And the project made some progress without me too:

The "old one" is being dismantled:

Flowing the heads:

Baffled sump:

And the rest:

This week the car is coming back from the painter and I'm going to pick up some new goodies..

And another update:

Just purchased LP FMIC/Rad combo set. I'm going to pick it up this Friday, but I couldn't resist the temptation to post it already.
Them pics from previous owner:

A Dutch JDM community blog has written an article about my build, check it out: http://www.wanganwarriors.com/blog/i...ttack-missile/

Guess what? She's back!

Although it was quite hard to recognize her...

Random stuff:

Details:

Outside:

Comparison:

January:

February:

March:

Once she got "home", we started immediately with the build:

Suspension mounted:

Well, the 330 brakes look microscopic now thanks to the colossal wheels... I think I should mount 356 in the future..

With the Spec C front train the wheels are standing ever further outside...

Cya next time!

P.S. Before you start commenting on the "blue" inside the wheel arches: we are going to paint them black, thats why they're left unpainted

I think I owe you some hi-res pics

We're made for each other...

Even a very WRONG attitude looks good!

And some tyres...

True that, I guess you can google the prices yourself.
I do know that they cost WAY more here than in UK (at least I think so).

I bought them here with a discount, but still...

Already thought so. Well, you sure got the right stuff! I was quite disappointed when I heard from Mark that the engine was gone.
I hope you will use it's full potential

Thanks again And if you anytime feel selling it, I will gladly take it over from you

Thank you Chris,

My findings about this dash & logger are only positive. This is absolutely the best set money can buy. Bang for Buck. There are so many features that you can use and configurate for your own perfect dash. The things I like the most or am very impressed with (don't forget that I am very n00b in the racing world, so some of them may be unimpressive):

- fully customiseable shiftlight, chose the best RPM etc.
- streetlegal (turn lights etc), so you can remove your OEM dash
- 4 screens that you can set up and to scroll through, for example, I have water temperature indicated in large when I start the car and as soon as it gets warm enough I switch to boost/RPM as you can see underneath

- GPS tracker for live lap times, sector times etc. Also notifies you when you have set a new PR. One handy feature is "predictable time". This can be used to cheat in Time Attack qualification round (at least in NL you get placed in certain class depending on your time). EG if you have 10 qualification laps, then you divide the track in 4 sectors and do each sector "pedal to the metal" per lap, then the dash calculates your predicted time if you do the whole lap at your best. From there you can decide which class you want to be placed in...
- nearly endless logging system, that keeps track of your throttle position, brakes, boost, lateral G's, wheelspin etc etc etc that you can compare with your own results to see why and where you were faster at one moment than the other (stepped on the gas earlier, followed another line etc). But the best is when you compare your results with other drivers, not that you will ever acquire them, but if you race in a team like I will with other experienced drivers, then you can learn a lot from their driving styles, simply by comparing your logs.

And so on, and so on...

Indeed, I fapped on your ride Daz (among with Frayz'), they made me want to go for the pinned 2.5 setup in the first place until I got an offer for 2.35 block.

What type of wheel nuts do you use on them out of interest? Are they the flat ones, or the ones that the car comes with as standard?

If I am correct, they were supplied with Rota's. No OEM, but nothing fancy too I guess. Can't give you an exact answer on this one mate, sorry.

Great project, and I like your attitude to your collision with the tyres, certifiably crazy.

Keep us updated.

Thank you mate!

I am afraid that the next update will be somewhere in January only, when we will do the complete swap of the engine and gearbox. Unless I will end up in some crazy adventure in between

I shall look forward to watching it progress. Great project

Quick question, How are you finding the balance of the brakes? Did you need to adjust the bias at all ?
