Default Japspeed RWD Subaru WRX Drift Car

Hi Guys,

Thought we would let you know what we have been up to over the winter with one of our projects we wanted to do something different for the start of the BDC drift season and the plan was to convert the 4WD to RWD and have a unique car in the series and this was the outcome

The shell started out as a 2001 bugeye and first job was the cage and getting preped for the build.

As the Rack on Subaru's is none existent we had to source a custom rack to give us that all important steering lock needed for drifting.

We wanted the the car as wide as possible and decided to go for the ABW wide arch kit which is the dogs bollox and a great fit, the rear arches will be bolt on looks amazing to see the studs peeping through.

The rear bumper is a Chargespeed and has a lower carbon spltter to be fitted once the car is all finished

The major fabrication was in welding the Nissan diff into the Subaru subframe and mounting in the correct postion.

The other big obstacle was that the hubs on the Subaru are 5x100 PCD and and we wanted to run 114.3 and keep the Nissan Shafts as we did not fancy getting custom shafts built. Jamie worked his magic and converted the Subaru hubs to take the Nissan flanges and drive shafts giving us the desired combination.

This was done to all 4 hubs and had to get all the brake discs re-drilled to 114.3

We used the EJ25 block and used the Cosworth forged bottom end with VVTio heads. We are hoping for 450-500bhp and are using the Lichfiel twin scroll turbo set up to give early boost. Also not shown in the picture is the Cosworth baffled sump.

We have stripped out as much as possible of the orginal loom and used the bare essentials and custom built the rest as we needed it.

Just a few tweeks left but here is how she looks now. We put a full hawk eye wider front end conversion from ABW which we wanted to give it an aggresive look with it's painted Japspeed carbon Bonnet to theme with the rest of the team.

Hope you guys like it

Apart from the driveshaft snapping in the practice runs and being replaced double time for qualifying pretty well. Just needs a few more tweeks.

Japspeed to Star at the 2011 Autosport Show

What a way to kick start the year! The 2011 BDC may not start until April but Team Japspeed will be putting on an awesome drift display at this year’s Autosport International, taking place from the 13th-16th January 2011.

Shane Lynch, Danny Eyles, Stephen Biagioni and Paul Smith will all be in attendance at the Maxxis stand with demonstrations taking place in the FIFTH GEAR Live Action Arena.

Being held at the Birmingham NEC Arena, Autosport is Europe’s biggest Motorsport show combining everything from F1, karting, rallying and now drifting! ‘It’s awesome news for British drifting’ explained Japspeed boss Paul McCallum. ‘Autosport is the only show for motorsport enthusiasts – we can’t wait.’

Click here for more info on the 2011 Autosport Show!

Remember the dates and make sure you come over and say hello to the team!

Come down and see us at the Maxxis Tyres stand 2250!
