I look forward to this, I changed my last 2 boxes on a ramp but I fancy do the next one in the drive...god knows why but I'm hoping it might be easier than balancing it on a gearbox jack for hours on end while I struggle on my own to fit it.

Take care when you refit the box to make sure you have the clutch lever in correctly.
Once you get the box in and close to sliding up the final couple of inch's you may need someone to wiggle the fork as you slide it up.

My first box went in really easy, the second took me about 20mins to get in the right place and then I spent all day trying to get it on the last 2 inchs, I took it off several times and generaly pissed about changing the angle of it etc but no way would would it go up all the way.

I came back the next day and got someone to wiggle the clutch fork while I pushed it on and it went in no probs.

Have you removed the down pipe? it makes life much easier when you come to refitting the bloody thing. Oh and I would maybe undo your engine mounts and tilt the engine back using a jack at the front, it helps when you come to refitting.

Good luck

I meant I hope you're using axle stands to support the weight of the vehicle whilst you're underneath the bugger .

As for doing the box on the ground on your own it can be done. I've got it down to a fine art now even with a six speed.

thats currently holding the box up, the car is on 4 axle stands with all the wheels in the air,, gone are the days of me changing gearboxes/suspension ect on sissor jacks ect,,,,, working in the car game you get told about stuff thats happened when thngs fail ect, if you look to the left of that pic you will also notice i have another 2 spare axle stands aswell, i basically borrowed all of my mates stands to get the car as high as poss !
