Redline Track Car Build
OK so I thought it was about time I started a build thread for my track car project, something I've been meaning to do for a while.
I initially bought a Jap-import drag car as a donor for the project, with the intention of rebuilding it into a lightweight two-door shell for use in sprints, hillclimbs and general track abuse. I grew up watching rallying and there was always an urge to build some sort of S5 or S6-themed track car, so that's what I set out to try and achieve. Bear in mind that this isn't an open chequebook build, I've done, and will be doing, as much work myself as possible. Which is why it's taken so bloody long!
Original donor car advert here: https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...le-500bhp.html
Car in my possession...
The car came with a broken dog 'box so I bought a 5-speed PPG straight-cut dog 'box from Paul at Zen, complete with Modena centre diff and straight-cut billet drop gears. So far so good.
A year later and I've nearly finished the new 'shell, it's nearly killed me at times but it should be in for paint at the end of the month. I've done the large majority of the fabrication myself which I'm quite pleased about! The overall goal throughout the project has been similar to others - minimal weight. This features throughout the build, and I dare say there will be plenty more stages in the future to reduce the weight even further.
Anyhow, here's a few taster pics...please excuse the messy garage at times!
Got these to go in soon too...
I'll report back soon with some more pictures, when I'm not slaving away in the garage trimming carbon fibre, welding, grinding or painting.
Cheers for looking,
Rich

Doors, bonnet and bootlid will be FRP.
I'm undecided on colour yet, but everything will be painted! Most likely white.

Cheers bud - yep front wings, rear quarters, side skirts, front and rear bumpers are all vacuum-bagged carbon fibre. Just weighed the front bumper - it's 2.3kg

Look forward to seeing this finished and hit the tarmac!
Get yourself and the car to this years ScoobySprint and see how you compare to my Spec C "shopping" car!

Plenty of weight to come out of that yet! But looks very good, very familiar!
Glad to see it taking shape rich. Where did you source the panels in the end?

Hi Rich.
I spent an hour looking for you at Silverstone (Trax) but could not find you. Ended up chatting to your PR girl for a while .
Project looks like a good one. Best of luck mate.

The panels came from Aerosim Research in California - www.aerosim-research.com - I had some other FRP ones initially but the quality was a little suspect and the rear arches weren't wide enough.
I don't suppose you could pm me a list of areas I can save more weight when you've got a sec? The boot floor is also gone, as are the rear side pockets in the boot which aren't shown in pics...but I'm not sure as to what else I can cut out!! Also need to pick your brain about modifying the rear chassis legs...
