My money pit !
This is my money pit. Last year the car had a bad engine fire due to some very suspect wiring that had been done, at this point I decided I did not want the 2ltr engine in the car anymore and opted for a 2nd hand Chy Wright 2.5ltr closed deck block engine complete with sti5 heads which I purchased from Oldfella on this board. Chy is always concerned about his engines and I was told to give him a bell to talk about my plans for the engine etc. When I rang Chy he told me that any guarantees he had with the engine would pass onto me . The engine was dropped into the car complete with STI5 heads and the plan was to swap back to my AVCS heads at a later date. The car was taken to Scooby clinic where Pat was to map my car on the GT30r, unfortunately the car didn’t like running 2bar off boost as it kept losing power so it was mapped in at 1.5bar and it made 472bhp/440lbs.
Assuming it was a problem with the turbo holding the car back I went with the advice of Pat and put the GT35r with the .63 housing for better spool. This turbo was swapped over at Scooby clinic and Pat then mapped the car but it was still suffering from the same problem and kept losing power at 2bar. The car was then mapped to 1.5bar and it made 487bhp/480lbs. The car was starting to feel much better to drive but still needed more power. Pat presumed that it was the STI5 heads holding the cars power back, I then thought it would be better to get my AVCS heads prepared for going back onto the car. Lateral performance supplied me with some new custom spec cams and my heads were packaged off to ZEN where Paul advised me to fit up rated valves. The heads were shimmed in for the new cams and the new valves fitted.
The car was dropped off at fiends to complete the final stage of my mods which will be to pull the engine out and strip it down. The block will be going back to CHY as he wants to give the block a clean bill of health and it also needs some new rods fitted as the ones in the car now are currently only rated to 500bhp. Lateral Performance has supplied the new rods which will be fitted by Chy.
This is currently the stage I’m at at the moment. I’m looking forward to my AVCS heads going back on the car and hopefully seeing about 560bhp once mapped in properly. The car is in one piece still and is ready to be stripped down any day
Here is the car after it had its fire
This is how the car looks now, all the pipework was powder coated in red as it was easier than trying to get it back to silver
And here is the car now in its resting place for the last changes

I first started work on Steve's car back in late 2006 early 2007 when Steve dropped the car off with me to have a twisted GT3076 fitted which he had bought from me, as i was moving on to a bigger turbo.
Steve also asked if i wouldnt mind sorting out a few other issues, like a faulty inlet manifold, and leaking fuel rails, both of which turned out to be a complete pain in the **** to sort out.
As my full time occupation comes first, Steve's car was worked on as and when time allowed, it also played 2nd fiddle to me getting my own car ready for Time Attack, but Steve knew this from the outset.
A couple of months past and Steve had his car back, and it was making reasonable power for a 2l and was reasonably entertaining to drive, but Steve wanted more.
I then got a call from Steve in April 07 to say that the car had set fire, see pic above, and he asked if i would mind sorting it out for him, which i didnt, so long as he was aware that it would be 2nd fiddle to my car and work.
After a total engine bay strip down, i had the car round to my friends garage for a respray, as well as the fitment of Steve's chargespeed front wings. When i got the car back, it looked pristine, and it soon became evident that i needed to be carefull with putting it back together.
In the meantime Steve had bought Oldfellas CDB 2.5 with STI5 heads, so Steve wanted this fitting instead. After completely stripping the loom back, and replacing damaged sections wherever possible, refitting all the engine bay works (eg brake lines, clutch cylinder, brake servo, etc, etc), all of which had to be cleaned or replaced due to fire damage, i finally got to stage of refitting the engine.
In went the engine, and what you see below is how it finished, after many many hours of work. It's an engine bay i am proud of, especially its state a good fe months earlier. Steve got his car back in October 2007.
I now have the car again, as you can see below, it's sat ready for dismantling again, parked in my shed next to my own Time Attack classic.
This time on the cards, the rods are being replaced, and the VVT heads are going back on, with a few other tweaks.
I asked Steve to start this thread, because it would then make me take pictures for him of the progress. Fingers crossed, that will happen

I also purchased a baffled sump from AS performance, due to going rotated there was no need for me to have the twin scroll baffled sump I don't think I will bother with the oil cooler as its only a road car.
Steven time attack may well be finished for you now but your new move will take up even more of your time

Strangely, its the only thing that gets me to switch off from my work!

id still fit a token oil cooler steve if i were you, when the turbos get that bit even short bursts will cook up the oil quite quick. Believe me, i know.

Yes, much better than wrap as it not only retains more the heat in the system but it also lasts a hell of a lot longer.
Retaining heat in the system improves gas speed and hence exhaust system efficiency to the benefit of spool and overall performance.

Not sure myself to be honest, it is neater, but i wouldnt say it matches the total heat retention quality of GOOD exhaust wrap.
In terms of cost, i have used Woof Technologies on mine, and would use them again, they are the same people who do the RCMS stuff, and are based in the centre of Bradford. WOOF THERMAL MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY LIMITED information filed as at Saturday 25th October 2008. Registered number 05475880 Tel 0870 7508833 and speak to John
Your looking at best part of £500 for headers, up pipe, down pipe and exhaust housing.
There is also Zircotec.

If you plan to keep the car in the same exhaust spec for several years (2+) then yes, if you're likely to readily chop and change or get bored and sell the car on then no, probably not, the cost is considerably higher than wrap in the short term, but wrap will need replacing at some point
