all depends on what you're starting with, is it a completely standard?

obvious starting points are exhaust, remap if you're altering fueling etc., better brakes if it's using 2 pots

IC placement sounds like a lot of hard work, bigger TMIC or FMIC would be easier

flat 4 yes the car is standard jappy spec

280 bhp i believe ic moved into car seemed good idea so it doesnt get hot nder racing conditions. in answer to 911 we are doing tarmac oval racing cornering at about 30 mph accelerating up to 65 - 70 down the strait

need good acceleration from 30 to get me out the corner PDQ !!

got some black diamond ( i think) and greenstuff pads all round coming same as we had in the vectra no compliant on stopping with these in

wots a tmic or fmic ?????

thanx

Ahhhh...Hendsford Hills Raceway in Cannock...what memories in the 70's!
I would think some good roll bars with adjustable links to bias the body for the right turns, the right turns and the right turns....
RA gear box would be a good move for very short gears, 600mm or smaller wheel diameter (mine are 590mm on 16's)

I would think that will be a good package!

Good luck, 911

forget the scoob then . the timing belt is on the front and it does not take much to break the plastic covers. if the belt does not break the cover usually gets eaten causing the belt to jump.

An RSJ will fix that.....makes a great bumper/nudge bar /cam belt protector.
Why not a good size (Sti8) TMIC and a serious scoop?
Oval racing is about 10 laps? Should be ok for that?
Set up a (big) waterspray tank for it with pleanty of ice and off you go?
Simple, and the TMIC is in the safest place!

Good game!

Peter,
I would stick with the std IC as the pipe runs will be a disadvantage if you remotely mount it.

moving the ic into the car stood up just behind the mesh covered windscreen will be easier than a FMIC and surely more efficient than a water sprayed top mount to get it further away from the heat

only needs two holes in the bulkhead with steel pipes from the engine to the ic wrapped in heat shield and foil to keep them cool ???????

less heat more BHP ?????

thanx

well, it would be good to see you pull it off that's what projects is all about

i guess if your bonnet gets nudged then the scoop isn't going to work to weel on the TMIC

Look at all those wires!
Get all that copper out and it will weigh nothing.
I was sure Dirt track ovals went clockwise!

Still think a drenched TMIC is the best (sorry), but as Flat says, Projects are all about this kind of thing!

I would be interested to see just how much weight you can get out of a Scooby in the end, but you must get to 1000Kg without the glass/window mechs and such-like?

Keep us up to date.(and loads of pics too)

Ahhh! Now I see where your coming from

How much front strengthening is allowed?

Putting the intercooler upright in the windscreen area should work. Bit like a font mount but further back Just keep the bonnet smooth so the air flow isn't disrupted before it gets to it.
If your prepared to cut holes in the bulkhead (I guess you are ) then the pipe runs could be quite short. Much shorter than a FMIC!
What year is the car as by the seats it looks like an early WRX. Not sure they are 280bhp though More like 240/260 but with a few mods 280 can be got easily and with the weight loss it should be pretty rapid

How about running a charge cooler instead?

Mount the charge cooler rad in the back with ducts to feed it, that way you keep the short turbo to cooler pipe runs, project the cooling system and negate the problems of a bonnet scoop being blocked....oh and add a CO2 spray for extra cooling

Basically as I see it your not running any glass, so there's a fair bit of air flow through the cabin, so as I see it there's not much to stop you fitting the radiator section of a charge cooler where the rear seat backrest used to be.

The early Legacy turbos ran a water cooled charge cooler system instead of a top mounted intercooler. Basically theres a cooling tank mounted where the top mount would have been and a small radiator that sits infront of the main engine radiator, an electric pump circulates the coolant.

Some pics here showing the charge cooler tank next to the stock top mount plus it all being mount in a Beetle based Porsche 356 Speedster replica.

Andy Forrest (Andy F) originally built his own charge cooler system as an experiment on his RA a few years ago.

There's also some useful stuff here: http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~gavinp/airwater.htm

it's a turbo, no back pressure needed, you could run with just the downpipe and a side exit exhaust if you so wished but it's extremely loud
