Default Impreza beetle

So im not entirely sure if this will be well received, but i figured seeming im adding a few posts technically on the subaru engine front i better add this to the list of projects...

i bought an JDM STI from Matty, the rear end is all 911 turbo and the box is a 964 4wd converted to 2wd. Everything has been modded to suite and all by myself. The long game is that its going to be 4wd using the carrera 4 front end gear.

Anyways pic speak louder than words and all that! not all the sheet metal work pics, but afraid it will bore everyone !

kinda from the beginning...

Cheers Gents! its had a few reiterations tbf, this route is defo the correct on in terms of power/reliability. There are a few hundred pics ive not included, but i hope its going to be cool, although now im changing jobs i wont have a workshop till i move house so future development will be almost impossible. The aim is to have a 400hp 4wd 1960s beetle, but the front section will have to wait for now...

Here are a few more...

Wiring from the STI. Removing everything other than engine ECU related....

So i fired it up on friday night, id wired in the fan the wrong way so suched rather than blowed. One dodgy cable to the Starter and its a winner....

test fitted the valance, its only balencing on there...

Front fan entry, all a bit weak, so decided to move the plate up 50mm. Cut the mid section out and keep the rolled edge but reduce its height to get better airflow.

so from this

to this much more airflow

and i welded the mid sections up like this...

and put the lamp bar on solid.

I'm currently in the process of exactly the same project myself except I'm using the Scoob transmission converted to 2wd. I'm no where near as far as yourself as I literally get the odd weekend here and there to work on it but all good fun.
Yours definitely looks like it's going to be a beast

So are you using the stock rear suspension? Yeah I went 964 so I can go 4wd and get max 600hp from the trans, on it this weekend, fitting rear valance, front splitter that's all made and looking sexual. Also need to solder in my mental optical neutral position switch ecu to the sti ECU w the 44abs ring on the porsche to the sti vss converting the 44tpr to 4tpr and converting the signal from vr to hall so there is no modding of the abs ring/sensor or Ecu. So all it will see is 4 teeth instead of 44 making it keep more functionality from the stock ecu, I've booked in w Andrew Carr for a live road map, launch control, anti lag (on a push switch so I can pop and bang at lights) and full throttle gear changes iirc. So wanna keep as much functionality out of the ecu as poss, which is **** as I'm rubbish at electronics😭

Yeah mines a 73 1303 Bug, in the process of strengthening all the shell currently with cage etc and need to brace the rear horns. Only got my engine and transmission fitted a week ago so very much still in the early stages.
Once built I plan on running Apexi hopefully, although if funds allow then will be going Alcatek for similar functions to yourself .

Good luck with it all mate

What a epic waste of money- Mikalors. used them to clamp my water hoses on the entire car. literally every single one has leaked. replaced with a bag of cheap 10£ jubilees from halfords. They might look **** but they seal. unlike the fancy looking clamps. totally gutted. waste of money and now the joints look ****.

How do people sell this ****? and get away with it. Should have googled 'leaking Mikalor' before buying, thats a warning shot!

Wicked, yeah had it a few years and its been draggin on tbh. with this setup its fairly future proof, designing the front wd stuff now, just broke so cant buy bits. Either way i need to get this car through an MOT this weekend, basically got 2 weekends on getting it, should be ok, just stressing as i have to do it all before i leave where i currently work.

Not involved with piston heads im afraid. never got the website layout...I kinda tried to made the car uncompilable so id be gutted if theres a copy cat out there already! ive not even finished the car! they can always copy the colours/simple stuff, but their never have a 911 GT3 RS drivetrain/g64 box/1970's 15"comps/turbo placement/crazy exhaust/1/4 panals/charge cooler in car/air damb/doors/10" narrowed beam/sheet metal. etc.

copy cats do my head in- Be original! dont be a ****ing sheep and come up with something yourself! GRR... ive had a few interesting cars and its upsetting finding out that someone rips you off then claims their ideas are their own...this time there is zero chance of it happening

Not sure on copycat claims when this has been running for a couple of years... Owner seemed like a really nice chap too. Car is running a real mix of Porsche chassis/brake bits.

Ha, i know this guy, hes given me a hand ! he lives near me! yeah hes sound as! yeah the cars are no way near the same, (yes there beetles with impreza engines and have the same header tank i suppose) but hes running 1303 chassis with serious mods, its a cabrio, G50 box. Really nice car, think we have the same brakes on the rear but thats about it? incidentally, 5 mins with him made me go down the STi route. After wed gone for a blast in his 2.5....Properly blew the aircooled dream away...
