V4 sti engine knock! Help
Hello all!
I have a 97 sti V4 that developed a knock recently. I talked to a guy who knows a decent amount Imo. He said it sounds like a spun bearing or a rod knock. I pulled the engine, wondering if anyone has a step by step tear down and build back up guide. I have a 97 sti ej20k stock jdm. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Tore down the block to bare bits! Where can I find a bearing and gasket kit for cheap? Also what can be used to clean off foreign material off the crankshaft journal? Help please! Thanks in advance!

Are you just rebuilding the thing? If so, here's my personal advice.
1. Bearings - go with ACL or genuine Subaru main an rod bearings. Gaskets - genuine Subaru (you'll need every single o-ring and oil seal that goes in or on the engine, you don't want to be doing this again too soon). I have no idea where to get them cheap, though. Importcarparts?
2. Foreign material on the crankshaft - take it to a machine shop, don't touch the journals yourself. There are very exact tolerances that apply to the crankshaft and it might be too damaged. It might be still useable after machining but you'd need to compensate the smaller journals with thicker rod bearings to keep the engine within factory spec.
I would not recommend putting the engine back together without a proper service manual - it has all the torque specs and tolerances and measurements that you'd need to follow.
