No, doesnt matter what the plate is , but the difference in model years is what counts and the car that Mark is selling is a version 4,

I checked with the garage that sold this to my hubby and they confirm it is a version 5.
I am trying to get the right info on here - this was my hubby's car and sadly he did not get to drive it much and enjoy it. Only purchased last June so someone is going to get a bargain!

Why does the reg plate not matter - version does not change on December 31st it changes on August 31st, the same date when reg plates (used to) change.

Version 4 was made between September 1997 and August 1998 (my STi is an early 1998, ie V4), so on a R plate. Version 5 was made between September 1998 and August 1999 so on an S plate.

At least, that's what my research tells me

 

Looking at the pictures, I'd say that is a Version 4. I also had a V4 on an S plate, and although this car has driving lights the front end is definately a V4.

 

Deffo a v4. You can tell by the cenrally mounted coil pack (v5 was positioned to the right), dump valve is not mounted on intercooler (v5 is) and the front brake ducts next to the fog lights are 'twin-vane' (v5 is single).

 

It is indeed a V4 as confirmed by the VIN plate. Very unusual on an S plate, possibly an error on UK registration.

Anyway looks like a lovely car from a very genuine seller - someone will get a bargain here I reckon
