Default Vectra B 2.6 estate

Hi all

Im looking for a spare car to get me around for a while and ive come across a facelift 2000 vectra (Y plate). The guy has been very honest with me and according to all the checks its all comfirmed as true. He has told me that there is a knocking sound coming from the steering when you turn left. My question is how hard is it too change a cv joint. How much would a garage charge roughly time wise. 2 to 3 hour job?

It would need to be very cheap / free for me to consider a Vauxhall.

Cheers guys. Was really just after an idea time wise no so much cost as i know everywhere the rates differ.

Its not a bad motor, just needs some attention this being the worst problem but for a 2.6 v6 gsi estate for less then £500 i aint gonna complain. Its got a tow bar so now im in the middle of rebuilding the subaru i can use this to tow the trailer with a shell

Hi mate, I'm a member on vvoc and the 2.6 engine is the best in the vectra b range in my opinion - I've owned 3 x 2.6 engined vectras, a 2.6 GSi hatch, a 2.6 CDX saloon and a 2.6 SRi Hatch... I've never owned an estate one though but I know they are pretty rare (only about 30 odd made).

My 2.6 GSi hatch had the same issue of knocking when turning and this turned out to be a top mount on the suspension strut which was easy enough to change over. If it's an outer CV joint, they are pretty easy to do to be honest - I'd say an hour maybe two labour but could also be droplink, track rod end, balljoint etc. so it will just be a process of elimination.

Easy to work on, cheap for parts from what I remember, just make sure it's not rotten.

I loved my 2.5 GSI saloon, the 2.6 were no good for modifying as there were hardly any tuning parts available for em, this was about 8 years ago though lol.

To be honest all of the vectra b v6 models weren't really that tuneable unless you spent silly amounts of money on them - without forced induction you may get to 250 but that's putting every available engine upgrade there is on there and also some engine work costing a fair few grand.

I use to be on vvoc and mvoc many years ago when i had my vectra. Think the first thing ill be doing is getting the wheel off so i can see whats what. Hopefully its nothing major but still im not complaing at the price. Tbh as you say, if you wanted any extra power from a v6 you had to go for a bolt on super charger

Tell me about it I got mine up to about 230bhp with about 1500 quids worth of parts from Courtney

I sold it to a lad in Scotland and it was in total vauxhall a few months later on one of the club dyno days, it did quite well if I remember rightly was in the top few out of the v6's, it was worth it just for the noise it made!!

It was immaculate, I hadn't been driving 12 months and my dad was going to the local car auctions for a look around, I told him I would be interested in a 2.0 vectra Sri ( was driving a 2.0 omega at the time) if there was anything decent there, he rang me at work and said I've gone over your 1500 budget but its a nice clean car and it looks like its got a body kit on lol, went down to find the 2.5 gsi number 0016 and asked him what he thought it was, he thought it said Sri on the doors as he must have had wrong glasses on

Paid 2600 for it at the time, spent about 2 grand on it then sold it for £4200 after about 18 months maybe 2 year, closest I've ever been to not losing money on a car

It would no doubt be rubbish if I was to have another go in one now after all the turbo cars I've had etc but thinking back it was my favourite car and I still miss it 8 years on.

I had a bit of a love affair with vectra's, in the last 10 years I've had the following ...

1998 1.8 LS PF Hatch
2002 2.6 GSi FL Hatch
2000 W 2.0 SRi FL Estate
2000 X 2.6 CDX FL Saloon
1999 T 2.5 GSi PF Saloon
2001 Y 2.6 SRi FL Hatch

Here's a couple of them...

Not as bad as an 850 T5 and comparible to a New Age WRX Turbo but without the thrills. I had a 2.5 SRi.......hated every moment of it.
