Default Mercedes

Guys

I fancy a change to one of these.

Needs to be automatic (sick and tired of manual when stuck in traffic)
Would like something with a bit of performance, but don't want to break the bank with something like an E63 model!

I'm not bothered with age of car per se (or mileage for that matter) - within reason of course.

Preferably a 4 door model, but would would consider a coupe.
I know that these cars of a certain year had bodywork issues, so would take any additional comments you may have to offer.
From what I understand(and I could be wrong), 2004 models onwards seem to have the bodywork problems addressed.

I'm based in N.Ireland, but would travel to mainland UK if the right car was found.

Cheers

What about a nice E class. Should be able to pick up one 05 onwards with the 3.0 V6 Cdi for around 6k ? Nice spec, nice cruisers 40mpg if you use it correctly.

My old man recently had a 54 plate E320 with the 3.2 straight 6 turbo diesel iirc, it was a nice car was reasonably quick for a barge and a generally nice car to be in. He then got a jag xf but didn't get on with it for reasons no one can understand as it was better than the merc in every way IMO, he's now back in a 10 plate E350 blue efficiency, 3.0 v6 twin turbo diesel iirc it's a lovely car although a little bland but he seems happy with it, a lot of money for what you get IMO though.

I would love any of the amg models though they sound so good!

Jag XF is a nice car, my neighbour bought one last year.
Nice car inside and a very responsive throttle.

Anyone on here got a CLK500 by any chance?

I have a new E350 blueeff it's nice does 6.5 ish to 60 and gives me 48 mpg on motorway, Leeds London and back half a tank but tanks massive lol

There ok but I'm bored already after 2 months car cost company 48k
If it was my money I'd get the cla45 on finance like a rocket them things and good mpg, hold a c63 at bay just don't sound as nice but fuel tax and everything nowadays unless your minted the new a45 or cla45 are the best bet

I've seen many c63 lately and they do took much better than the normal and do 70k I want headturner

And that's what I miss the scoob did that. Sniff

Im not sure if I would be happy putting these words to a Mercedes. Having spoken to the dealers and being old that parts are designed to fail after 5 years you really are opening yourself up to a lottery of how much and what will break down.

Fair enough.

Just been talking to a mate about his merc and the issues he's had with it.
As regards to being designed to fail after 5 years, well, maybe he's just been really lucky

Great photos of a good looking car. Mercedes certainly know how to dress their cars.

Saying that although at 4-5 years everything went wrong its been pretty good so far...maybe that because its half a new car though with its new doors, starter motor, steering rack, stereo, springs, shocks, stops, top mounts, ARB, ball joints, drop links,
edit...I forgot the electric window motors, sticky slutch pedal and cold start problem.

My Impreza before that was perfect except for the auto adjust HID control. The Ford Cougar V6 I had before excellent as well. The VW I had before that...well, lets just say Ive realised that German build quality is only skin deep. The Vauxhall Corse before that perfect as well.

I've had e320 cdi for a few months now and as an all rounder it's doing ok
They are not super quick but can pick up a good pace once up and running , combined with comfort and incredible mpg I'm quite happy with it so far
