Top 5 cars you've ever owned and the worst
I was thinking today about all the cars I've ever owned and which were the best.
I don't mean just the best to drive necessarily, but the best all round in terms of driving, running costs, looks, satisfaction, reliability, build quality... i.e. which ones do I look back on and think all round that was a great ownership experience. I am deliberately excluding my current cars as I think you don't know until you have moved them on how good the experience was overall, but anyway here is my top 5
5 1983 Mk1 Golf GTI - the original GTI and the best ... uber reliable and a lot of fun to drive. Very cheap to run! Sold it with 130K on the clock, saw it 5 years later with 255K on the clock... still on the same engine/gearbox!
4 1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD - loved this car, just felt at one with it and it was the best UK cooking model Scoob in my opinion. Did lots and lots of trouble free miles until a Land Rover killed it
3 2001 Honda DC2 Integra Type R - the best FWD car ever made. Track car handling and very focused.... also 100% bombproof reliability. A hoot to drive, but a bit too harsh to make the top 2.
2 2004 Jaguar XJ8 - from the sublime to the ridiculous... always wanted a Jag saloon, don't know why, just liked the grace, space and pace idea and hankered after the leather and the toys. Owned her for 18 months and despite all the warnings about reliability she was faultless. Lovely place to be ... wafting along in supreme comfort and she could press on a bit too. Just missed a manual gearbox in the end... other than that a perfect car!
1 2005 Honda S2000 - After a very disappointing Porsche Boxster S ownership experience I got the car I should have got when I got the Boxster, but got sucked in by the Porsche brand. Better looking, better built, much cheaper to run, like the DC2 uber reliable and a lot of fun to drive. Not perfect by any means, but overall it's the car I honestly look back on with the fondest memories....I just wanted a little bit more luxury and little bit more power..... then it would have been perfect
Finally the worst car ... easy for me this. My Friday afternoon lemon of a 2003 Impreza STI. Now I know most are great, but mine wasn't.... things that went wrong - rear diff failed at 63K, 4 sets of shocks, water pump, heater matrix. numerous electircal issues, bouncing suspension and a car that even when it was running never felt 'right' ... my 1999 UK classic was better by a country mile! Bought the STI new in 2003 and finally got rid in 2007 when I could take no more..... a sad experince not enhanced by the dealers and IM Still bought another classic after that though
So what is your top 5 and your worst car too?

Good thread!!!
5. Clio sport 172 (not much goes faster for the money!)
4. 106 gti (fab car, perfect mix of power and handling ability)
3. Mk5 fiesta zetec s (the best 'warm hatch' made in my opinion!)
2. Corsa VXR (amazing hot hatch, looks the part, great seats, easy to tune, cheap to run!)
1. Impreza P1 (regretting selling it 3 years on )
Worst car......
Mk1 focus RS. A perfect lesson in how to put a powerful engine in a FWD car with a completely pants diff, and then throw in a horrid seating position for extra measure.

Ooh yes, what a good thread. We need "Theme One" by George Martin playing in the background!
#5
Renault Sport Clio 200 Cup
A little jewel of a car that seemed to be able to attack any bend at any speed. A well balanced chassis with a rev-happy engine but unfortunately lacked straight line oomph on Motorways and sweeping A-roads which left one vulnerable to high capacity turbo diesels. Also let down a little by quickly fading brakes.
#4
Mk.1 Ford Focus 1.8
The car I first owned! I was fortunate enough to own this car from nearly new and put over 150k on the odometer. In that time I suffered an alternator failure and a couple of flat tyres. It went, stopped and handled like a dream with sharp steering. It was not the quickest car in the world but a great car in every way for a young driver.
#3
Mk.5 R32 Golf
I've not owned this car long but am enjoying it massively. It sounds fantastic, carries a young family in comfort and when I'm on my own allows me to give it some welly and get a good load of enjoyment back out of it. It is a little bit thirsty for what it is unfortunately but I have managed mid 30s on long journeys. It sounds a lot like a 997 Carrera S over 3000rpm, a car which does not make my top 5 list.
#2
2005 STi PPP DCCD
Probably doesn't need much introduction. What a car.
#1
Cosworth Impreza CS400
A fantastic road car with a wicked turn of pace, I use this car pretty much for my own enjoyment and nothing else. In stock form it is a monster but currently evolving into something more extreme. I simply love it to bits.
And the worst... well it is between my Impreza Spec D or a 997 Carrera S. Both suffered terribly from reliability problems but ultimately the 997 was occasionally a great car to drive. The Spec D was not as comfortable as it should have been but seemed to lack the focus of some of the cars that have been before and after. It also suffered the famous HG issue and unfortunately it left a sour taste in my mouth. It could have been so much better.

Right here goes....
5. Fiesta Mk1. 1.0 my first car. An old old Y Reg. ha. Came standard with just one wing mirror. No trouble what so ever!
4. Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo. Not the most reliable car but the power was great for FWD, and torque. Really liked the looks too!
3. Yaris T-Sport 1.5 Vvti. Little cracker this was! Bought it off my dad when I was buying a house, needed a cheaper to run. In 3 yrs not one fault, not even a flat tyre or a drop of oil. Took us to Scotland and Cornwall. Brilliant little go cart.
2. Mazda MX3 1.8v6. Another trouble free motor from Japan. Afew mods really brought the v6 growl out. Not the cheapest to run back then but well worth it.
And number one goes to.....
1. Honda Crx Vti Del Sol. 1.6 Vtec in Samba Green. UK spec and had the electric roof!!! Proper pocket rocket. Loved this to bits, even put OZ Polaris wheels on if people remember them. Sounded great and the best seats ever. Sold it after driving over some bricks on the motor way. Needed new wheels x2, tyres x2, Abs sensor and afew other bits. Felt out of love basically. Wished I'd of kept her. The reg was JIW 3564 if its still out there!
The worst was a Peouget 306 xsi. P reg. Bag of crap. Only had it afew months, traded it in for the mazda v6. Worse thing was i got the 306 to replace the Crx!!!! Maddest thing I did with cars.
Hope I didn't bore you lot

Showing my age now. Had a look at em on eBay last night after I posted on here. Going really cheap now, well ahead of there time tho years ago

I passed my test in the sixties, so I've forgotten about a lot of the cars I owned,
These are some that stand out, mostly in my early motoring years.
5, Morris Oxford MO
4, Ford 100E Pop
3, Ford Thames 7cwt van (transplanted big engine)
2, Ford Transit II (transplanted big engine)
1, Subaru WRX Wagon
I've also had many, many company cars.
Best fun was the first MR2 in red.
Best performance. BMW Alpina B3 2.7
Best poser BMW 750iL (begged to give this back, I used my monthly fuel allowance in one week)
Now, I have an Aerodeck, best sleeper I've had

Never owned a really bad car, had a few scary ones though.
In no particular order:
1: 3ltr JPS Ford Capri, got stolen and wrecked
2: Peugeot 109Gti, could bite, got wrecked by two teenagers driving a stolen car into it
3: Porsche 911 Carrera, scary at the limit, finally did a 180 ( as it always felt it was about to do on fast bends), somehow no impact and I sold it a week later. Great car if you had a sense of humour and didn't mind the feeling it was trying to kill you.
4: Mazda MX5, probably a bit gay to be honest, but a lot of fun. Still got it
5: Mercedes CLK 320 with AMG kit, cool cruiser. Still got it
Plus Wrx Sti, much modded, current money-pit car

I've had so many cars it's difficult to place them, add that to the fleet of company cars and it's mostly a blur, so these are a few of my favourites.
Audi GT, amazing in it's day and coming from a Mk4 Cortina I felt like I was in the cockpit of a jet fighter, great for pulling birds too, pretty sure half the time in it was spent ********. which is what every 19yr old should be doing Had it 4yrs and drove it like I stole it most of that time and only replaced a leaky water pump and consumables.
Fiesta XR2i, I had 3/4 of these, decent performance and handling in it's day and soooo cheap to buy and run, always used to make me laugh how little the parts cost compared to the Audi, and always made a few quid on them too.
Mazda 323 the last one, was only a 1.6, but had a decent turn of speed and handled like it was on rails, could put it anywhere I liked, I particularly enjoyed hand brake parking it.
Modded 04 WRX saloon my first scoob owned from new, fell in love with it the moment I saw it and had to have it, couldn't believe it was £5k cheaper than the volvo I was about to buy, was a total revelation in power delivery and grip once tweeked a bit, still miss it a bit and always hanker after another black blob saloon.
Sti Type r, just takes subaru ownership to another level it's my perfect car, I'd have one over any car out there I think they made these just for me.
The worst is a toss up between afore mentioned MK4 Cortina which gave me nothing but trouble from day one, but did teach me an awful lot about cars, and a mk3 or 4 ford Escort estate, I traded a mazda 626 in for it and it was one of my worst car decisions ever, as soon as I drove off the forecourt and down the road, I thought what the bloody hell have you just done. god awful place to be with no redeeming characteristics what so ever, although I did have a lot of fun in ford Capri's and mk1 and 2 Escorts, but they were also crap back then, funny how things change.

This is a lot harder than I thought to write...
5 - Classic WRX - only makes the 5th spot because I think mine was a dud, handling just never felt right no matter what I tried. Worlds apart from my blob.
4 - Starlet GT - maybe the most fun car I have driven, especially when modified
3 - MR2 Turbo rev 3 with gt3076 - was great really and shouldn't of sold!
2 - Celica 190 sports m version - very pretty and handling was amazing
1 - Current wrx blob of course
Worst is easy - any of those horrible crap hatches they give me as hire cars for work, worst so far has the be I think it was a 1.2 corsa. Just didn't move and everything was electronic deciding what it wanted to do not what I wanted! Couldn't even turn the dam lights off with this new daylight running crap, I don't want my lights on in blazing sunshine thanks!

Top 5! cars owned?
My Dad's 78 and still on only his fourth car.
For me:
1. '99 BMW MCoupe
2. Citroen 2CV6
3. MY00 Prodrive Impreza
4. BMW 130i
5. Ford Ka
Worst? Has to be a MY00 Saab 9-5t. The worst built most unreliable POS I've ever bought......though a MY07 Lexus IS250SEL ran it pretty close. Where the **** did they get that reputation from?
