Running costs on FQ300
Looking at getting a scooby hatch but have also been drawn towards hawkeyes and even over to the dark side. A lot of adverts seem to say serviced every 5000 miles? Is this true and what are the running costs like compared to a STI

I didn't because it felt bland, un-exciting and generally not very involving to drive. A very capable car, but it doesnt give you much of a buzz. I had more fun in the civic.
That's why I'm into Subaru now, because they offer almost as much pace, but more excitement along the way.

All evos are exspensive to run everything has that extra premium with an evo..
i sell parts for a living and on the ocassions ive owend evos 568 they have allways been alot more to run than a subaru.
as said aswell the evo feels abit vague on the road the subarus just feel planted plus the 6 speed box in the fq is crap and weak

Tame car would need a remap to be a fun car really your asking on the wrong forum mlr is where it's at for evo info
Sst box can be costly clutch etc
Timing chains stretch then break if not looked after although there is an updated chain available now.
I think 10k service on a evo is pushing it in all honesty I would think most change oil every 5 k
Ayc pumps are common on the x aswell
I'm not saying there a bad car I personally think there's better to choose from
If it wer me id have to get a 9 gt with 5 speed box and even then I'd always wish it had the Subaru 6 speed and the sound of the boxer

Scooby hatch would be my choice, thats what i want next. Has to have the 18s on it though IMO! Quite like the fog lights too! In fact i love the 330s model but they're overpriced considering you can have a std STI then tune it and still have spent less!

I went from a jdm blob sti to a 350bhp Evo 7. The Evo has much nicer seats than a blob sti (much more supportive and deeper at the bottom) I've had it since just before Xmas and I've found it to be more thirsty although the Evo has a smaller fuel tank, the gear change isn't as nice in the Evo compared to the 6spd Impreza (never driven a classic or a wrx so can't comment there) out on the road though the Evo feels much more planted when pressing on and gives much better confidence when turning in to a bend too. I suppose everyone is different and their opinions will be different, the only way I'd be back in an Impreza is if it was something a bit special

Loved my EVO, would of out handled all 5 of my Imprezas including my STI RA. TBH, I didn't find the running costs any different...(self servicing)
Not sure I'd own a X tho, its not without its problems....like the Subaru 2.5 has problems with HG/pistons the X breaks rods, even in stock form.

But having said that the Evo even in standard form handles much better then the Impreza, You could throw the Evo about and it just seemed to grip and give you so much more confidence compared to the Impreza!!!

I wasn't saying one was faster than the other, I was saying that depending on which Evo you have it's cheaper to get to 400bhp than an Impreza. I personally prefer the Evo over the Impreza but thats just personal preference. I agree that the Evo inspires much more confidence in the twisties though, saying that though the op is on about an Evo X which is too heavy to only consider an fq300

I was just trying to point out that the Evo especially the 9's with a remap, full decat exhaust etc can see as high as 410bhp on the rollers, but would probably be as quick as a 360bhp STi on the road n a starght line where it really matters.
Both great cars, but always had a soft spot for my old Evo VI RSX
