Well it is a turbo petrol and a 1 ltr petrol turbo squeezing 125hp of of it gonna be stretching the engine and fuel economy, not hard to work out

My inlaws have a 2 month old Ecoboost B max. Compared to the 1.8 C max they had before they report better economy (far better than 28mpg) and they do a lot of stop start town driving. They say it is more powerful as well although I think that it is mainly due to the improved torque.

Could yours be faulty?

There are loads of reports of poor fuel economy, so doubt it's a one off.

Perhaps it's a driving style thing? As in, the harder you drive it, the exponentially worse economy you get - a bit like how driving a normal road car hard is less economical than driving a supercar around at the same speed.

The turbo diesel Mini which I have does 45 mpg on short shopping runs and about 55-60 or so on a run, has good acceleration and is very nice to drive too.

should have gone for the 1.6 tdci.
40 odds round town and 50 odd on the motorway.
only done couple of hundred mile in ours but seems ok.
not the most powerful thing (in fact it wouldnt pull your f0resk1n back) but £20 quid road tax makes me smile.

That does seem silly. I would be willing to bet that a 1.6 Turbo would be more economical and far more usable on a car that size.

I've just returned an Audi A1 loan car. I had it three weeks and it averaged 53.4mpg. It was the 2.0 140bhp TDI, it went like stink and I could get over 60mpg on an A road run doing 50-60mph. The best I saw was around 64mpg.

I always wondered how they actually achieved the quoted mpg figures for the 1.0 eco boost focus. It just didn't stack up. A 1.3 tonne car powered by a tiny engine is never going to result in great fuel economy.

A few guys at work have 2.0l dervs, Focuses, Golfs etc. and don't have long journeys to work. What's up with short journeys?
