Same old, same old.
No doubt a nice engine spec that is completely ruined by gash bodykits, etc. Pretty much every single RX7 and Supra are the same - really grinds my gears. My mate has a 400ish bhp RX7 that looks far better IMHO because it is virtually stock. It's not perfect - it is primarily a track car as opposed to a show car - but it least it looks like an RX7 and not a Halfords shop front.

Look at this lot for example, it is just abortion after abortion:

The nicest cars in there are This and This.
All they need is a tasteful set of 18" alloys to give them a more up to date look. The rest with the stupid whacky wide body kits are just cheapened and nasty.
Jap tunning is 90% tasteful when the cars still cost £40k+ to buy; see Alloy's GTR for example. However, once they drop in value it seems everyone is determined to add as much weight, sticky out bits and nonsense to them as they can. Mark my words 15 years from now 90%+ of the R35 GTR's you will see on the road will make you want to gouge your eyes out with a spoon!

What frustrates is that I have in the past and may in the future contemplate an RX7 purchase. There are many with a good engine spec but nearly all of them have stupid stuff that would be expensive/difficult to remove. As a seller you are limiting your market and as a potential buyer it is very annoying.
That said, it's the same with houses. So many people stick in god awful kitchen/bathrooms and horrible wallpaper (so called 'feature') and wonder why their house sticks on the market for 3 years. It's because people like me get excited when they read the spec only to turbo hit back when the pics load.

If he changes the horrid colour, the mechano spolier, the cheese grater bonnet, the wheels and the body kit, it will look like a nice car. I am sure hes worked wonders on the cars engine, as with the suspension, handling etc. Like many others, I am just bored of the jap 'chav' look and personally like cars subtly modded and near standard looking. But each to their own, it would be boring if we all liked/did the same thing.

Im with Saxo boy here big time...I love jap cars (RX7's, Skylines & Supra's etc) but they could be fitted with a £100k body kit and I wouldn't care, Id much rather have an unmolested original in mint nick and save the $$$ for engine mod's and handling...makes me shudder when you see a good car ruined
I'm sure it sounds amazing and goes like the clappers but its way to fast & furious looking for me

yuh, I suspect he will struggle to sell at that price
(i am sure he has spent alot of time and money on it and it is very well done)
but if I was looking for a performance car, for 12.5k I am sure you could get a mint 4/5 year old M3, that would be faster, more comfortable, more economical, more reliable, lose less money etc etc etc
I am sure there is someone out there willing to pay 12.5k for it, it is just finding them that is the bugger
I suspect he will keep it

Have to agree with Saxo boy to an extent what goes through people's minds when making things like that green monstrosity I hate the snow plough bumpers and sharp angled look! I do however like a subtle kit that follows the shape of the car and a nice set of rims

M3, that would be faster
You were right on every other count and, in fairness, despite the monumental power of the car OP posted I'd question how much of that can be put to the tarmac effectively. It probably scrapes and bottoms out on everything and the tyres are stretched rubbers bands!

I LOVE IT !!
Now i almost bought me a red one a few years ago by my over the road "mature" neighbour. I was offered it for 3k but regretably turned it down.
Thats pretty much how i pictured it ending up looking like if i signed that damn V5 , but the wankel worried me it woulda been a one or the other either an absolute money pit or some healthy profit .... Ended up with a 98 Integra Type R instead which i ended up selling within 2 weeks for a very nice pocket bonus !

I love rx7s in any form their are obvious bad ones the yellow one looks lovely won't appeal to everyone but the Rex seems to be one of few jap cars that can pull it off.
I had a 94 uk spec in red 18.9 gtr's on the front 9.5s on the rear and a wacking great big greddy turbo with some rare mazdaspeed seats used to literally laugh everytime I took it out. It's a shame they are horrendous on fuel even with today's standards of powerfull cars they guzzle the stuff.

btw I do think the RX7 is a very very pretty car in standard trim
Regarding the M3 thing, I made the same mistake a few years back. I seriously didn't understand how light and slippy RX7's are. They were allegedly 276bhp (lol, remember that unwritten rule) when standard but 300bhp+ was very easy to obtain. Even with basic mods it was the measure of an M3 in a straight line. Quite fascinating when you consider it was designed long before the e46 M3.
However, while it might seem somewhat natural to compare it to the M3, the RX7 was initially conceived as a 911 rival. I think history will record that it fell woefully short; nevertheless, time has done it many favours. Unfortunately, the truly great examples that have lots of money spent on tasteful mods seem to exists exclusively in the states. There are some absolutely stunning RX7's over there with big and useable power.
Edit:
I'd have one in a heartbeat but the problem is that if you buy a tuned up one it invariably has a world of nonsense kit with it. If you buy a standard car (clean slate) you have to pay something of a premium for an unmolested example. For say 400bhp you're going to want to rebuild it, possibly port it, strip out the twins and put in a big turbo, injectors, fuel pumps, labour, brakes, suspension, respray or touch up, nice alloys, good rubber, costs, costs, costs. Before long you are £20k+ in the hole (to do it tastefully, reliably and right). That seems a trifle silly for a car that could never be sold for that amount and when there is so much interesting machinery for the money. That said, you occasionally get the odd high powered minter working through the system.

I think it looks bloody awful.
The RX7 in standard trim is a beautiful car, probably in my top 3 of all time. Why ruin it?
Ever since one was used as Vin Diesels car in Fast and Furious, so many have been ruined by schools kids with money.

I have to say that I do in fact like that RX7. I agree it may be a tad low to be able to use the all the power available without damaging arches, skirts or worse under the car, but that can easily be corrected!
I was also at the fabled jap cross roads of RX7, Supra, Skyline, Impreza and, dare I say it, Evo and it came down to the Impreza or the rex. As above I was worried about reliability issues of the rex and ended up with the Hawkeye. But if I had the chance I'd love a rex, not too dissimilar looks wise to this one, as a third car.
£12.5k does seem a tad on the high side though but nevertheless good luck to him.
