Question

See www.tuningbox.com ...

Like many others, I've had an offer of company wheels and am thinking of doing the TDI thing. Anyone got experience of using the tuning box product?

I've checked TDIclub.com but most of the posts are US-based, I wondered if any UK scoobynetters had any experience?

No direct experience, but spoken to several "users"-

Most are happy enough whilst accepting some compromises:-

Remap and tuningbox apparently give simiar full throttle results, but part-throttle can become "lumpy" and snappy with tuningbox.

Full remap allows you to alter the timing of the fuel pulse (advance it slightly) as well as the duration, and to "request" a higher boost from the turbo. Overfuelling via tuningbox will indirectly lead to more boost, but without the same level of control.

I've heard comments that remapping allows piston temperatures to be better controlled than tuning-box, but not seen any great evidence for this......

Summary ~ remap almost certainly the better, but not easily removed....which is probably important if its company metal....

I have a Kuberl tuning box on mt 110 TDI Golf. Well worth it. Bags of torque, and better fuel economy. Only down side is it sounds lumpy when cruising to a stop (which you hardly notice really)Apparently the Golf has a small fault on the ECU which does this but it is slightly amplified by the box. Later models don't have this as it was sorted by VW. As my car is out of warranty they won't sort it. Also if you have the MPG computer thingy it reads a bit optimistically.
I picked mine up for £200.00 on Ebay

Good mod, apparently a chip gives even better results but isn't as easy to remove if you need to (and costs more)

Cheers
Andy

Thumbs up

Thanks -- Andy, how long / how many miles have you had yours on your Golf? Interested to see if there's any impact on reliability etc ....

Only about 4000 miles, but no problems so far.
