Default Booger it, my second car failed it's MoT...

Well, it doesn't owe me owt, it's a Xantia 2.0 HDi my dad GAVE me with 13,000 miles on it when he gave up driving. It now has 167,000 miles.

It's failed on handbrake cable, wishbone suspension and brakes.

The local MoT garage can do the first two, but not the suspension, and we think the low efficiency of the car's brakes is in part due to the suspension problems. The pressure in the system also powers the brake servo.....

It's off to a Citroen dealer on Friday for a health check and to see if they can diagnose the suspension problem and give me a ball-park quote for it's repair.

THEN I have to decide if it's worth repairing.

Now I know lots on here will say, "scrap it!", and you would normally be right.

But when it's working, it's comfortable and will go all day at 80 mph and still return 50mpg.
Plus the suspension, when working, allows it to be filled with ridiculous amounts of stuff for the house, and stupid amounts of booze for the journey down, then back up, France.

Friday will tell.
Now to find out what it's worth.....

Fix it, as it stands you naff all and you know its history.
You could shell out for another car and buy unknown issues.

Can a mod say why this has been moved, please?
And do mods not inform as to why and when any more?

It's NOT "other car" related, since I'm not asking questions specifically about another car, but picking people's brains about what to do?

What responses will it get in here?

I take it all of the hand brake turns, light dipping and dougnuts have taken their toll and have caused the car to fail it's MOT. is it worth setting fire to it and claiming of the insurance? Plasma in the boot etc.. I so didn't say this but you could get the wife a flash JAZZ ! lol

You can't do a handbrake turn in a Xantia, the handbrake operates on the FRONT wheels.

Knowing your run of good fortune recently, you'd manage it

Cars worth bugger all, few hundred quid, Jeff. But in useful terms, the engine is solid, bodywork isn't rusty to hell and its so big and comfy...

Must be worth a few hundred quid at MOT for say another couple years a 30,000 miles? Unless you look for another Xantia derv? Low miler or last made maybe?

To add, actually they seem to hold strong residuals Jeff

eBay and Pistonheads have a few HDi models from £700-1500 and 100-150k miles. Surprising but obviously good cars (apart from front bulbs).

Weigh it in, buy another lower miles Xantia probably for less than what you are going to end up spending on this one

Can't find the fail sheet: it was on the side in the kitchen last night, but it's walked since and no-one will take the blame...

It said something like:
"Vehicle's fluid suspension system fails to operate at all, (or sufficiently, or properly.)"
