Mondeo calipers
Anybody know about these (2004 car)
Rear handbrake cable is in permanently compressed state offside on the caliper, but it's not biting at all, also handbrake lever is now just beyond last notch, quite suddenly over a week or so( rolled down hill couple weeks back, thankfully didn't matter)
Do I need a new caliper, as well as handbrake cable?
Ford charge 45quid for EACH cable, that's 90 for both sides, not including the central mid bit
Or putting it on, daylight robbery.

MK3 mondeo?
Probably a caliper. They are prone, they stick on, wear the pad down so you need to pull the lever more and more.
If you un-hitch the cable (from both ends) and excercise it, and it moves freely, then cable should be fine.
It should have a manual adjuster under the exhaust heatshied in the middle. You can adjust it. but if the caliper is fubared you'll have to do it again a few weeks later. If its still has an auto adjuster it should have been replaced with a manual adjust (recall).
Don't be suprised if the caliper on the other side starts acting up a short while later. As I said, they are rubbish.

Don't know what's happening tbh
Came back from africa after a month mid march, having purposely left handbrake off,to find/hear some graunching rear end like pads were jammed on! I thought it would go away, and it did, but come MOT there was advisory that rear offside disc was fubared (i replaced discs/pads 18 months ago).So anyway I replaced disc about month ago and all seemed fine including handbrake...
There has been this humming from the rear for a couple months, I fear a wheel bearing..

This happens every 12 months on my st220, it is always the cables on mine. Unclip the cable from the caliper and see if it will move in and out of the outer sleeve, mine move about 2 inches when free, if they wont move I prop the cable up and feed in some thin oil, once it starts moving pack it with grease and your done. The inner cable is covered in a plastic coating, this sometimes starts to peel off the cable and jams inbetween the outer sleeve and inner cable, I've just taken the plastic off and worked the cable, more oil and grease and it is now sorted again for another 12 months, real pain but a common problem

I'll have to have complete reapriasal of handbrake meacnism in the caliper,
The pads are good, the hndbrke cable is drawn tight on the caliper, but there's no action. - I could turn disc freely when wheel offf, jacked up
The brake system must be working cos there's wear on the disc

The handbrake arm won't return to position once handbrake is let off, have to hit it
Like the spring has gone - but it looks fine to me...
These things don't need lubricating surely??
