The BMW will be a lot nicer place to sit in, and will have more room inside with it been a 4 seater convertible. I almost bought a 350Z convertible when first came out but was surprised amongst other things how little room it has inside - seem to be all bonnet. And does not feel that fast or special, but I'm told its a car that get under your skin - short test drive is not enough. A bit of a marmite car.

My mate has a BMW and gets 19mpg around town. When it comes to looks though, the BMW is much better than the Z convertible in my opinion, Zs should only be bought with a solid roof!! Performance wise, neither are going to be what your used to, 0-60 of the BMW I think is mid 6s and the Z about 6.

Personally if I was getting an e46 cab I'd get a small engine or 320d. As stated the 330 is slow anyway do why not get a slow one with better economy?
If you're coming from a 380 bhp type r even the m3 will feel slow. Why pay more insurance and fuel for a slow car with a big engine.

Ive had a 350z coupe and a 325 convertible, 2 totally different cars, neither compare to the scoob though!
I used to get 18mpg average around town in the BMW, and worse in the 350z, but the 350z was better than the BMW on long runs.
in general the bmw is a nicer, more chilled relaxed comfy car, bit of power there if you need it but not delivered in a sporty way at all. Id class it as the sporty car for non car fans... if that makes sense. Ultimatley its a great all rounder but kind of boring...
The 350z is less luxury, but something about it was amazing, more enjoyable. I did have the veilside bodykit on it which i loved, and will probably sway my opinion, but in general i prefered the Z. Only problem is 2 seater just wasnt practical, and i had to have a second car due to this. Only thing i will say is i had a K1 exhaust on my Z and oh my god it sounded unbelievable. Other than a scooby its one of the best sounds a car can make!!

once you are into modding you will never be able to stop, i bought my wrx to use as a daily so i didint have to drive my 330bhp modded volvo s70r everyday, less than 12 hrs later after getting it home i had fitted a 3" turbo back exhaust lol. once its in your blood you cannot drive a standard car anymore.

Once you are into modding you can stop or learn your lessons and be more sensible with how you mod. In the last 6 years, the only mods I have done have been remaps. Whereas in the 5 years I had my Impreza I had about 10 different turbos, 4 gearboxes, 3 intercoolers, 3 lots of injectors, 6 engines, 3 suspensions, 2 lots of brakes etc.

I would never choose a 330 over a 350z, the 350z looks special and IMO is a lovely car to drive.
The BMW, just looks like every other BMW on the road, nothing special about it.
I would have the hard top in either case though.

I was lookin at hard top 350z tho in convertible look terrible. As some of you have said the fuel is terrible in the 330 s to. I also still have my love for s2000 s but the lack of torque would kill me . There such good looking car s but just no power also insurance was 500 more on the s2000 than 350 hard top with 313 bhp lol

I also think that the 350z looks stands out far more than the BMW which will blend in and disappear. The 350z will get you noticed more if you like that kind of thing.
I saw a 350Z hard top in the garage the other day with a subtle body kit on (not some OTT nonsense) and it looked fantastic, almost 911 in its proportions. With the additional engine enhancements he was fitting he have a car so much more special than a 330 BMW.
Anyway its an odd comparison 330BMW and 350z. Shouldnt it be 3.0 Z4 and 350z?

and it wont break down as much, although checking out the tracking bolts (Im not sure of the technical name) would be worth while as they seize and cost some money to put right but this is the only thing that owners seem to complain about and half the time they never even realise. Compared to the BMW its bullet proof and far cooler.
I test drove one, very nearly bought one but for me the interior and the torque of the 3.0 Z4 was more appealing. In the end I got neither as I couldnt make up my mind before my wife fell pregnant which is what led me to getting an Impreza and this forum.

I had an S2000, that was a great car. I took it in px and just intended to punt it on but I really liked it.
Don't be too put off if it feels skittish. Mine was lethal at first but the tyres were worn on the insides and the geometry wasn't right. I got new tyres all round and geo done, it was rock solid after.

Have a look on the S2000 forums. This geo/tracking is what sometimes siezes. Its around 4 years ago now so I cant remember the details but its something to do with one of the bolts used to adjust the geometry is trapped meaning you have to take the frame off to get it off - something like £1000 labour. This only needs to be done if its seized though and if caught early enough can be greased and treated to prevent it becoming an issue later.
This is worst case and there are a few specialists that can sheer the bolt off, drill it out and replace them upside down, a relatively small job so. I remember that this was the only problem that got flagged up really and as mentioned many people dont actually bother with geo set ups so are blissfully unaware of any issue. Compare that to multitude of faults you will find on the Mercedes, BMW and Audi forums and its enough to make you look at the Honda first every time.

As for tyres, that's crap as well, I did 15,000 miles on the Pirelli P-Zeros in the first 12 months (2 trips to Plymouth every month for a year + normal driving) and there's still loads of tread on them, it's just passed the mot with them on.
They don't "feel" fast because they're a GT car, not an out 'n out performance car like Imprezas etc, that's what people seem to forget. They can be made quicker with a few easy mods too.
