Default Audi A3 - High Emissions

A friend of mine just had an MOT, and she was told that the car only scraped by on the emmissions.

It was 200ppm at fast idle and the HC Test/Reading.

What would causes this? Is something on it's way out?

Cheers

Hi,

She just text me this pic.

It did pass, but the MOT'er said it was on the limit, so she would like to get it sorted....what ever the issue might be?

CO is at the limit but lambda and HC look good, CO at idle test was better. Assuming it drives OK and is gettng good MPG then I would say there is nothing to worry about. It could have just been that the engine/catalyst might not have been that warm at time of test or it could do with a good run if its only used around town most of the time etc. etc.

Thanks for the reply.

What factors change to CO reading?

She said it drives ok, but would like it fixing....although, like you said, there may be nothing wrong. She probably does just drive around the town.

Take it for a good run up the moors road to pickering and I bet the CO will be lower afterwards. Cats work best when they have been hot for a while and had plenty of time to burn off any contamination from sulphur etc.

I dont think there is anything to fix to be honest and you could end up spending money and not change the CO reading.

Brilliant, thanks for the help.

She will rarely rev it much, so I will tell her to do as you say and give it a bit of a spanking every now and then
