Question

I did the factory tour and test drive yesterday, and I've decided I want a Westfield to go with the scooby. Ideally I'd like a fairly well used SEiGHT for around the £10k mark (and a bit less if possible).

Unfortunately, in all the places I've looked, they seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo

I already know about Auto Trader, the Westfield factory site, Terry Nightingale and the Which Kit? magazine site, but are there any other places that would be worth looking in for used Westies? Magazines? Web sites? Garages?

All suggestions welcome,

Andy.

There's some decent westies on the WSCC, looking for a BEW myself, and there is a megabusa westie on there for only £10,000, sorely tempted Off out tommorow with the manchester westies, so looking foward to that
How do you get on these westfield factory tours then?

Hey Craft,

If you go to the Westfield website and fill out their information form, they'll send you a brochure. About two weeks after, they'll ring you to make sure you got it and see if you want to come up to the factory.

Alternatively, if you ring them on (01384) 400077, I'm sure they'll book you in for a visit. Apparently the factory is open Non-Thurs 8-5, Friday 8-4 and Saturday until 1pm.

Andy, the V8 sound nice but are too heavy and handle like dogs because of it. Light is the way to go. Half the weight, half the power will give better performance and far more fun.

Bike engined (like mine ) is the ultimate, 400-450kg all in and still with 130-190bhp depending on engine.

Catflap: try http://www.which-kit.com/.

The V8 may be heavy, but I'm still inclined to at least test drive one. It seems that whatever I buy, they don't seem to depreciate much over time, so I can always change my mind later on. It's looking likely that I'll have to settle for a relatively boring Ford Zetec or Vauxhall engine anyway, given that they seem to be all that's advertised, and I do want one for this summer. Once the weather turns cold again, I'll have all winter to seek out my ideal spec

Andy.

Went with my mate for the tour & test drive a few weeks back and now he has sold his EvoVI and the kit arrives on Wednesday.

He has gone for a Megabird, which is the 170bhp Blackbird engined one and specced up all the "options" for track use, like LSD, 4-pots, dry sump kit, poly bushes, etc...

He said the demo car he went out in made the Evo feel slow and that had well over 300bhp!

I find www.findit.co.uk to be very useful.

Also racecar.co.uk on the parts board.

Cheers,
Scott.

Mmmm... nice

Thanks for the pointer, it looks like a lovely car. I'll have to give it some thought, though - £12.5k is more than I had in mind for a weekend toy. 4.6 litre engine, though... drool... drool...

I run a good old XFlow and thats plent fast enough for me atm I again wouldn't recomend a V8 either (although I've not driven one myself), Alot of ppl in the padoc etc do say there quite a bit heavyer. I dont know if I'd go for a bike engined one either in a 7style car. I like the SBD(IIRC) Vauxhall engine 2litre and about 220bhp and very reasonably priced so you could pick up a XFlow one (car) and drop a different engine in once you've got used to the car.

I remember chatting to a guy at one sprint though who has run bike engine cars for a long time (the ZCars guy, fastest 0-60) and he recomends the Kawazaki(sp?) engines for price and reliability. Buy a copy of CCC I'm pretty sure they advertise in the back.

Although the Rover V8 is heavy, IIRC it's actually lighter than the Pinto

Also remember its not just the engine, but the engine and gearbox. A bike engine has the gearbox 'built in' and still only weighs about 80 kilos!

Dizzy: I drove an 1800 cc Ford Zetec powered car at the factory last week, and although I was impressed by the ride and handling, I really didn't rate the engine. It was very noisy and harsh, and needed a lot of work to get any power out of it. Jon Moss took me out in a SEiGHT and it was much quieter and smoother, as well as having enormous grunt with no need to rev it hard. That appeals to me

Unfortunately, lack of a garage, time or mechanical aptitude means that swapping engines is a no-no for me. I'd rather just sell one car and buy another if I get bored. There doesn't seem to be an excess supply of SEiGHTs, nor any lack of demand, so I'm sure I wouldn't lose out even if it turns out to handle like a great lumbering barge (which I doubt!)

I think the term "great lumbering barge" is a little excessive I think you've certainly made ur mind up as said in the first reply the wscc bbs is probably the best place to look then. However I'd also recomend going to a sprint meeting as theres always loads of nutters who are more than happy to tell you about their pride and joys

bet the all CORNER well though
