F'n quick no question but how much has that car cost to build
Any truth in the tale I heard that it's about to get a £10k gearbox fitted
ps You can buy my complete scoob for £ 9k and it does the 1/4 in 11.8 (time slips to prove)

green scooby the car has already been featured in mags
the last time as in performance ford dec 2001 issue.
today's times were done for redline magazine as part of thier 'redline records day' so the even will probably be in redline mag soon

That car has been featured in a few mags. I think 1/4 's were more closer to 10 secs. speeds 120+ It was also tested against a lightly modified fireblade for a bike mag. The fireblade got stuffed. He also has the green cossie mondeo which is a little slower due to being a more road based car. The escort is a stripped out lightweight type.. And lets face it, it is still a piece of turd escort. Ive driven a few, and they dont even compare. 500bhp in a crap car, just makes it a fast crap car. Fair game to martin though, there arent many other cars around that go quite as quick, especially road legal ones.

Yes thats the same car and it also clocked 188mph how many scoobs can do that? that car is absolutely awesome to watch in action and anyone slagging it off a) doesn't know what they are talking about or b) hasn't seen it in action Ok escort cossies aren't my favourite car but there is no way you can knock this car and there is no way any scoob on here could beat the performance. Respect ALL fast cars and accept that scoobs aren't GOD of performance cars

Those that understand what Imprezas are really about do not think they are 'God of all performance cars' at all.
Nothing like a stereotypical, ignorant opinion is there?
Like people who think 'Cossies' are crap. They're clearly not at all. Some guys in the US built a 1000bhp (yes, that's right a grand) that was road legal but only had a small lock-to-lock turn to run the 1/4 v. v. fast. I don't recall the times and I won't 'guess' as some people on here seem to about what they may have been as this tends to lead to a whiff of BS around the place. Lets just say that it would destroy that Escort Cosworth and lets also bear in mind that @ sub 8secs to 100mph 0.2secs is an awful lot.

10k isnt really that much to pay for a gearbox...Honest...Please someone back me on this one as I am finding it hard to justify it to the bank manager… I bought a gearbox from Gemini transmissions they were a little more expensive than the likes of the deals I could get from Quaife and Hewland, but the GT box was a direct replacement and therefore required no relocations of engine and gearbox mounts..Plus it weighed only 33kgs as opposed to the 50kgs of the standard box.
Not too mad really

Martin's Escort was in last month's CCC track day car test too. I met him at Anglesea, nice bloke.
Car was not suited to a twisty circuit due to the massive turbo lag. Then it blew the box up.
I bet it would be stunning at Dono or Snet.
A lot less fun in the wet I imagine, as the testers were complaining about power increasing so rapidly, when it got onto boost, that it was braking away all the time. That was in the dry.
A very nicely built car.

thats just boost control.
It can be mapped out surely.
there is nothing that says all the boost ahs to come in one go, it is also rigth foot dependent.
Look at the F1 cars, they can still manage to keep the rear wheels in line in the rain, even with traction control switched off!

heh, I remember Martin spinning the car around on a sixpence once at the Revs 1/4 mile day at Alconbury. All he needed to do was boot up the revs, dump the clutch and then dip it again less than a second later. The amount of power put through the drivtrain was enough to keep the EIGHTEEN INCH WHEELS and sticky tyres spinning to complete the donut even though the clutch was disengaged.
Big power, bigger respect.....
astraboy.

As to martin and the car. Awesome piece of kit, it didnt miss a beat at the ring either. Martin seemed like a decent chap too.

was that THE reyland cossie at the ring? i did wonder. the grey escort cossie was nice as well, i liked the nice piece of braided hose leading to an old oil bottle for a breather! i have a similar setup on my Pug except i have a bit of garden hose and a mineral water bottle! (the dark green one, i'm sure not one person at the ring gave it a second look all weekend, and i only saw one other 205 the whole time i was on the continent!)

There were two Reyland Cossies at the Ring, the Escort belonging to a certain Mister Hadland and the other was to do with Redline mag...build by Martin...
The Grey Cossie is my mates...quiet slow really in comparison
I think it was the green Cossie called Monte that had the oil breather into an old bottle...
It is a normal'ish car... just a little bit more power and a little less weight...

Yeh the car was in CCC this month
Read it, it gives a good impreshion of what the car was like to drive on a tight track, basicly it aint good (on the tight track) Not that the car is BAD, in fact quite the opposit, it goes like the clappers, but lag is a problem.
Check out the westy and cat in the back their times (i beleive) were faster than the cozzy.
In fact the Pug 205 was not actualy that far off in lap time, 5 seconds if that.
This is why im over to the dark side, come to me my westy, come to ME!!!!!!!!!!! lol

People,
We ran Hadlands Cossie in the Dec 2001 issue of PFord and back then it ran a 11.4 sec 1/4, 3.3sec 0-60, 8.3 sec 0-100 and hit 188mph. Its good to hear it gradually getting quicker...
As far as spending £10k on a gearbox, that's probably wrong. Its just a straight cut box with a Quaife gear kit with an off the shelf Quaife lsd. He might have spent a good £10k replacing the ones his mashed up though!

Laws of physics don't apply to Cossies then ??
""in a word, nonsense! You cant have the wheels spinning without power being aplied.""
'Inertia' mean anything to you John ???

I think you will find that if you spin the trans up to 7/8k whilst sitting doing a do'nut, you can dip the clutch well before the end of the maneover and still 'gyrate' due to the inertia of the drivetrain
If you have ever watched a dragster do a dry burnout, it's when the power is shut down that the tyres bite and jolt the car forwards. Oooh how does it do that ? there was no throttle applied

i must say I’m not very knowledgeable in the area of drag car transmissions, so if anyone out there knows better, please pipe up.
