Need a diesel what should I get?
Can't justify that tax/fuel/insurance on my R32 as much as I love the car.
I said it would be the last performance car I got, and that is the case.
The most straight fwd thing to do would be to trade it for a Mk6 Golf TDI 2.0, but this isn't that satisfactory to me. I was thinking about trading it for a Tiguan but that would cost me a bit more.
I'm not interested in a bluemotion Golf as they apparently are dire to drive.
I am kind of stuck with VW I think as my R32 was from a dealer and I figure it is better for me to trade it back with a VW dealer, then at least I get a VW in warranty? What do you reckon?

how much is in the pot?
Personally, i'd go for a 120d or e46 330d and remap either of them - the 120d will return 50mpg combined and 0-60 in 7s and the 330d will do 0-60 in 6.0s and return 44mpg combined
they're not lightening quick but they are comfortable, reliable and rwd with plenty of torque and decent fuel economy
I test drove a bogo 120d with m-tech kit on it and it looked pretty smart and they're a hoot to drive for the economy
I do like my beemers though

I'm worried I'll be raped if I trade in at a non VW place and a main BMW dealer won't want my Golf right?

Yeah I suppose they are not that slow.
I'm being drawn to the bluemotion Golf. I can probably live with the utilitarian nature knowing for my penance I get an mpg better than 70 mpg and free road tax. Also will be a great reason to post on here and boast about my cheap motoring.

330d gets my vote. Just sold mine 54plate 330d m sport for another scoob.
Silky smooth power delivery, all the toys like sat nav/leather/digital tv, very comfy and really quick. Not any slower than my 280/285 scoob but returned 33mpg round town without even trying.
Cracking car mate.

I've had bm's for 15 years - only things that generally go wrong electronically are brake sensors, lambda sensors, door microswitch and airbag passenger occupancy sensor - all are cheap to fix and easily diy'd
in fact if I was going to have a moan it would be about suspension bushes - I was getting through a set every couple of years due to oversized rim disease and "spirited" driving

180bhp
Which works out at 400 nm torque
Think eco tec are taking them up to 200 now
In reality it is no different to my my2000 classic turbo in real performance
Which is standard 225 apart from decat and filter
Just have to slow down a bit more for he corners with a new age hatch

Also suffering from being nicked quite easily at the moment!
You'd think some peeps on here worked for BMW... hah.
The WRXd looks a nice AWD choice.
Really depends on what you want to do with the car, family bus, occasional load lugger etc.
5t.

Swirl flap issue should have been addressed on anything post 2006 iirc.
There is no question, BMW 1 and 3 series diesels have the best engines in that size range out of all the manufacturers. They are also the best to drive.
BMW dealer no more or les likely to shaft you on trade in for your R32 than a VAG dealer, to be honest.

OK, it's not the quickest thing in the world, but it gets 40mpg (more on long runs or driven more sensibly) , is comfortable, has AWD, and VW Build quality.
It handles pretty well too. More like a car than a small SUV.

I have a VW Tiguan 170TDI R-Line as my daily driver.

I elected for a 2010 Golf 2.0 TDI match.
I drove a 1.6 bluemotion too but it was a bit austere, very hard to muster much enthusiasm for it. The 2.0 TDI has leather seats, touchscreen, nicer interior basically and more torque, should see 50 - 60 mpg and only £100 tax.
