Right got a bargain here !
Looking for some worldly knowledge on the jaguar XJ8 .
A mate of mine is selling his jag and at a very good price it's in mint condition full service history body work is immaculate pristine interior ,it's the V8 4.0l .
I'm looking for a nice clean car for my self to cruise the highways on weekends away with my wife and son.
As you can see in the pics it has a private plate which will be removed its a 98 and I was amazed how well they drive comfort is of the essence just wanting some info on these as I know very little just things that may go wrong in dye course, I know it's going to be thirsty buts it's only going to be used as a weekend car for long drives around the country not as an every day car as I have my van .
Cheers lee

I suppose it depends on how much 'cheap' is. Less than a grand, and if anything major lets go, then its no big deal to scrap it. I'd take it, at the right price, looks a good 'un and its only just run in on that sort of mileage.

I brought 1 of these from the auction last year had 12mths mot and 6mths tax i paid £600 +fees for it was same colour had a dented rear bump but mint with no rust issues
Sold it when the tax run out for £750 to a friends dad who still has it with no issues as yet and sailed through Last Mot
I loved chillin around in it and it drove so smoothly i would personally recomend 1 for comfort

Lovely cars but very expensive to run, have you priced the tyres up yet? a mate of mine had one quite a few years ago and they were a special size and cost about £120 each and that was at least 15yrs ago, and i bet the rear brakes cost a fortune.
As above rust, rust, rust, i think they used the same metal on maestros and metros and you don't see any of those on the road the these days, i know a bloke that has 3 of them, one is a convertable and worth a fortune but the rust is everywhere.
I'm sure your going in with your eyes wide open, but they are cheap for a reason.
Hope it all goes well for you.

I had a 95 plate x300 Jag for about 6 years from 1998, basically the same car but with a 6 cylinder.
Before you buy it pop in to your local Jag dealer and ask the price of a modest service.
I know you will most likely get it serviced elsewhere, but it will open your eyes to what they really cost to maintain in top condition.
Any parts that break will cost an arm and two legs, and to be perfectly honest I didn't think they were that well made considering all the hype about Jaguar quality.
The engines are silky smooth and the auto trans can't be beaten for undetectable shifting, and they are very comfortable. But the suspension parts carry a lot of load so don't last, and I think the interiors are put together with velcro, well mine was anyway
Mine didn't suffer from rust, but there are plenty around that do.
Oh yeah and they handle like a Thames barge too
