I have got a 205 1.9 sitting in my drive at the moment !!
it has been of the road since december and i have just finished putting a new head on it
i know it needs a lot more doing to it before it is race-able but i need to ask a few Q's
1:how do you go about finding where they do "sprint" and "hillclimb" events ?
2:how much are these events and do they require some kind of insurance (the car isnt insured at the moment)
3:does a full roll-cage need to be fitted
4:do i need to apply for a race-liscense first, if so, then how?
i dont mean to be dumb but this is something i would love to try out, and since i it is a second car, it doesnt matter if it "breaks" every now and again if anyone else has got any info please pass it on

Sorry for not responding quicker !

Best way is to join a local(ish) motor club. For example I live in Cheshire and now do the Mid Cheshire Motor Club sprint. They take part in sprints around the region such as Aintree, New Brighton (Liverpool street circuit), 3 Sisters etc.
2:how much are these events and do they require some kind of insurance (the car isnt insured at the moment)
The events seem to vary a little in cost. But something like £70 ~ £80 per event seems to be the norm currently. On top of which you've got club membership which is usually only a few quid.
Insurance ~ In my Class (Modified road cars > 2000cc) the cars have to be MOT'd, taxed and insured. However the insurance can be road use only and not specific for motorsports. However if you prang on the circuit then obviously you wouldn't be covered. I currently have specialist competitive car insurance which allows crazy modifications so long as the car stays within the Modified Production Car classes.
3:does a full roll-cage need to be fitted
Not mandatory ~ however in our 205 its made a world of difference in terms of confidence. If we have an "off" it may mangle the motor, but hopefully won't mangle us
4:do i need to apply for a race-liscense first, if so, then how?
Yes get a race licence first. If you are going to run in your 205 in modified production car classes you should be alright with a None Race National B Licence which is around £30.
Go here http://www.msauk.org/
If you go to "Go Motorsport", Licences you can download the forms over the web I think.
If you need anything more let me know and I'll do my best.
Apart from being majorly frustrated in waiting for my 205 to come back following its rebuild I love Hillclimbing and Sprinting. Our should be quite "serious" when it comes back. Looking for around 210 bhp/tonne out of it
Cheers

Try here http://www.ukmotorsport.com/uk_speed.html It gives a good idea of the number of clubs around. Last year I did the Harewood Championship which is based at one Hillclimb. This got a little much and needed a change of scenery after 3 years of taking part at one venue.
Hence looked at what was out there, which clubs went where and decided on Mid Cheshire Motor Club as go around the North West really.
Harewood
Aintree
New Brighton
Curborough
Anglesey
Scammondam
3 Sisters
Our next outing should be Sat 18th May at New Brighton (if my car is ready )
Come find me and have a word ~ I'll be nearby my Yellow 205.
Cheers

Brother and my mate will also be in their MK1 'scort.
But they'll be in the same class as me in Road Modified's < 2000CC (Class 1b ?)
Hopefully it will be dry !

Cool ~ Never been there myself before.
So far there should be :-
Me ~ Pug 205
Brother and mate ~ Mk1 'scort 2000cc Pinto
you ~ MK2 'Scort
& a guy I used to sprint against when I had the Impreza. He has **JUST** bought a Civic Type R.....
Plus some peeps from the Pug Sport Club site.
Excellent.
As it stands right now it looks unlikely that I'll get there as the engine has no head. It needs running in then setting up on the rollers all before next Saturday..
Now if I were a betting man I'd say I'm going to be a VERY pissed off spectator....
