What car? cheap run around for school runs?
Hi,
Looking for a cheap car for my wife.
Currently she has a 2001 Audi A4 - 1.8T
We found this car to expensive to run, also the road tax is expensive..
I was looking to sell and buy another car
requirements are simple:
Budgets near £3k
Any idea's?

Depends if u still want street cred so to speak. Lol. A year ago i bought a
Mk2 mondeo. 1.8 . And touch wood, it hasnt missed a single beat. Its got all the toys and is damn nice to drive. Full service history and just a couple of minor car park dents. Makes such a differance to be able to go over speed bumps, park it and not worry about it getting keyed, dont worry about getting it dirty etc etc. it has been the best £500 ive ever spent.

Something little newer, dont think its a matter of street cred..but more reliability as she has to travel around with 3 kids..
Astra's are coming out quite cheap..

Mate. The mon does about 120 miles a day and is as safe and comfy as houses. Doesnt matter if the car is 3 years old or 13 years old imo. Both can be reliable and not reliable if you get me. Cars are cars mate. Get a young car thats been ragged or an older car thats been cared for.
Hope u understand what im trying to say.
Ps the wife puts three kids in, no problems.

You'd get a relaible 55 mpg 206 diesel for that price. Will keep its value pretty well to.
I'd get the reliable 1.9 engine rather than the 1.4 HDi as the 1.9 is a reliable lump, good for 200k plus.

Are the kids all under 12 and attending a local primary school ? If so, how far away is the school from where you live ?
Where im going with this is, car sharing or a bus ....
Best way forward to save a few pounds.

Its all about "do we need" rather than "what do we need" nowerdays.
If the school trip is 2 miles then get the bus, if its 10 miles then drive, just note all the other parents will be doing the same so you will get stuck in traffic
If its just round the corner then tell her to get walking

Oh yeah I forgot about that. You have to get a V8 Range Rover for a 3 mile round trip through a city centre.
