Turin, Italy - The "StreetKa" is a two-door, two-seat, spider concept based on the Ford Ka, featuring a fully concealed canvas top, wider stance and performance look that make it ready for any street-track racing adventure.
"Inspiration for the StreetKa concept came from studying the diverse European youth culture and the constantly evolving trends in street fashion, music and film," said Filippo Sapino, managing director, Ghia S.p.A. "We have taken the already fashionable Ford Ka and given it an urban, street spider look and feel."
The exterior design of the StreetKa builds on the distinctive features of the Ford Ka - which was introduced in 1996 as the first production vehicle to feature "New Edge" design. "New Edge" combines smooth sculpted surfaces with clean, crisp intersections to produce a sharper, more defined image.
The StreetKa exterior body panels are finished in a mauve tinted, silver metallic paint complemented by a dark-blue canvas top. It features six-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 17-inch, specially sculpted Pirelli racing tires that are set to the edges of the wheel wells, giving the StreetKa a wider, performance stance. New headlights and fenders add to the unique look of this street-sports car concept.
The interior features two, racing style bucket seats trimmed in dark blue leather. The instrument panel is made of a translucent plastic material with anodized aluminum accents and features adjustable gauges giving the driver the flexibility to switch from urban driving to track racing in a matter of minutes.
The driving gauges, which display an analogue speedometer and radio/CD controls, can be rotated to reveal a chronograph lap timer and a rev counter.
The structural reinforcements on the interior and two aluminum roll bars add to the full safety and stability of the passenger compartment. Two aluminum bulkheads are positioned at the front and rear of the compartment and are connected by four longitudinal extruded beams that also function as concealed seat tracks.
The StreetKa is powered by a 1.7 VVC-litre Zetec engine and features the suspension and drivetrain recently developed for the Puma race car

Believe it or not, A Ford Ka has handling and balance that a TT can only dream of.
Wife used to have one and the handling was absolutely superb. Made the Scoob feel very heavy and ponderous.
Let down by the fact it looks 5hite, has a 5hite engine and brakes.
Streetka has a 1.6 Zetec and better brakes and looks cool - should be an awesome little car.

...It’s not out until 2003 though!
Does anyone else hate it when you see the concept car with a set of wicked alloys that really suit the car, and then they just throw the whole design out and stick 4 completely uninspiring rims on the production car. A case in point being the Street Ka

Ford ruined the normal Ka by cursing it with the Jurassic-period 1.3 engine. Why didn't they fit the 1.25 Zetec motor, surely it suits the whole image of the Ka better? Ka's are a lot of fun, great handling and surprisingly quick point-to-point

If you import a Ka from France Or Belgium, they come with 1.25 Zetecs and Puma brakes anyway, seems the usual 'Brits will buy any old crap' mentality is alive and well in the home of the blue oval.
I,ve been told however that the front subframe assemblies for the Ka and the 1.7 Puma are identical (same Fiesta base), an early Ka and a written off Puma would make an interesting project methinks.
P.S. I'm with CraigH, my missus has a Ka and my boss has a TT225 (had, got to work this morning to find a brand new 330Ci outside - that'll explain the pay freeze!). The Ka never fails to put a smile on my face, the TT is an over-styled, over-priced, cramped Golf 4-motion with a lacklustre engine, pi55 poor visibility and a chassis so dull and uninspiring it makes my Mum's 1.8 auto cavalier look like a fun drive.
