FORD MONDEO 2.0 TDDI 2001 - Running problems. HELP NEEDED ASAP !!!
Hi. A friend of mine has a 51 plate Ford Mondeo 2.0 Tddi, 2 days ago his car started running crap (stuttering at high revs and finally dies after a few minutes of running, approx 4 miles after start up). Was told by mechanic that is fuel filter and need to be change. He asked me to do it so I`ve done it.
Car was running absolutely PERFECT, even better than before (my mate told me), and again, after 10-15 mins of running it goes bad again. This is the message I`ve received from him:
,, ****ter it`s doing it again ! Was fine until coming up to Shortstown (approx 4 miles from place he works), then started stuttering at higher revs, dies as I got into the car park. Got it going again and revved it up, lots of smoke then it lost all power. ,,
To me it looks that is something going wrong when reaching some certain temperature. Everything is back to norm when car is cold. It will start up at first time with no problems. What do you guys think ? EGR valve, air mass/maff meter ? Or maybe something else ?
I will start from cleaning EGR and Air mass/maf meter and see if that helps.

hmm... Is there anyway to check if it`s faulty ? I found this thread on one of the Ford forums http://www.talkford.com/topic/192055...ow-wont-start/ , when a guy is describing nearly same symptons and he sorted it out by changing thermostat... Is it possible that thermostat will cause such a problems ?

google ford CHT - cylinder head temp sensor - the wires can become damaged and earth causing problems and the sensors do fail causing running problems.

GTB,
I might be wrong but if that was a fuel pump it would be causing running problems from the beginning, and this car is running absolutely PERFECT for first 10-15 mins and then when it's get fully warm it start running CRAP and finally dies.
After 15-20 mins of cooling down is OK and then 15-20 mins running CRAP again.

If its Ok when cold then cuts out n dies when warm it's the camshaft position sensor if it's fitted that is depends whether it's common rail diesel or just a di no frills injection pump both have common faults with various things causing poor running
