Default Focus ST ot Astra VXR

Im looking at selling my Scoob becaus i never really drive it, the Mrs uses it more so im looking for a sporty hatch for her. Ive narrowed the search down to either a Focus ST or an Astra VXR but which is the best all round car?

I test drove a Focus ST3 the other day and was VERY impressed with it.

Great engine and ride.

Focus ST is a very good car, reasonable performance, great ride and handling, comfortable, looks good, nice interior and different equipment levels.

Astra VXR is a bit more fun i think, certainly a little more lairy! Looks really good especially in white as in ASHWRX's pic. Personally I HATE the interiors of Vauxhalls the centre console looks so soulless.

I felt that the VXR was quicker. Wasn't too impressed with the Focus ST although I had just stepped out of a 300bhp Volvo T5...

Why bother changing? Just let your lass drive the Scoob.

Both the ST and VXR will get the same crappy mpg as the Scoob.

EDIT.
If it's just for her, get her a Mini Cooper S.

Ive just bought another ST and after a remap, Intercooler and a full turbo back exhaust its a different car, it boosts to the red line now but at the same time is happy to sit at cruising speeds and be very dosile

I had my first ST when they first came out and TBH wasnt that impressed so got rid of it after a year and as my Subaru is getting on a bit needed something a little more up to date and rememberd me having to prize the keys to the first ST out of my wifes had it was a no brainer.

The ST is a more grown up version of the VXR in my opinion and is a little less in your face in standard form but the V5 growl and the torque are there on tap when needed and once modded its a lot more exciting to drive.

I love my new ST and the Subaru has been relegated to the garage since I picked it up, the engine tone after I had the exhaust fitted and the increased driving pleasure from the remap really dont make me want to take the Subaru over the ST.

My brother has a VXR Corsa thats been played with and he may be able to get away a touch in the corners (that was before I had my Eibach's fitted) he has no chance once I can find traction and get the power down.

Conclusion is drive them both before you buy but ultimatley I'd buy an ST over a VXR all day long

I Was in the same boat a few yrs ago and chose the Vxr over the st & i love ford!!!, much quicker than the st and better mpg, just felt more fun...

I had a fully loaded with full leather heated recaro's, xenons,19",climate,satnav ect...

Think you should test drive both and make you own mind up buddy.. it was stage 3 pumping out a nice 259hp

Thought about a mk1 focus Rs?? Absolute beast with a few mods

had an st until the snows last year could not get the thing off the drive
2 much power through 2 front wheels with wide tyres no good

so got the hatch sti no comparison chalk and cheese the sti is a much better car for handling and power

ooh and it cuts through the snow and ice

to go from a scoob to a ford or worse a vauxhall is a backword step

I'd go for an ST from that choice too. Have you considered a megane F1 230 R26?

Drove an ST last year running about 280BHP, very impressed, couldn't help thinking it would be a bit difficult getting the power down in the wet though.

That's what i said. Hence the Mini suggestion.

Going from a 2.0l Turbo to a 2.5l Turbo is not going to improve your mpg figure.

When I was looking for a hot hatch I was thinking the same 2. And I ended up with the st in the end coz vxr has more power but it can not put it down as well as the st. The chassis is much better on the st. And after a remap with a plug and play bluefin super chip your is a much better car anyway. That 2 ltr of the Vxr can't take much

Crikey, how long do T1R's last on the front of a tuned ST
