After the awsome Scoobycity track day on Saturday at RAF Bentwaters I've decided that I simply MUST get more time on track. However I also love my Scooby too much to do her any damage.
Sooooo.
I'm on the look out for a suitable car to buy. I don't wanna spend a fortune as I realise its gonna cost me an arm and a leg just on track fee's each month so I'm looking to spend under £2000 if poss.
I've already found a ready to race XR3I with a brand new body shell and complete spare car for £1500. So obviously race prepared cars are'nt alot of money to buy but I want to shop around first so if anyone has any website links or mags to buy with this type of thing for sale please let me know.
I just went out and got Autosport Mag but there was nothing cheap in there.
It does'nt have to be race prepared just quick, semi decent handling and cheap on initial outlay and parts.
Possible options so far are:
A beat up old Pug 205 1.9
or (dare I say it) An XR3I or XR2I
An unfinished kit car (westfield style)
Anyone think of some more options?

I was also at bentwaters - on track with my elise 111s - i watched the scoobs doing there procession thing - one or two went sideways - as did I later on
Looked good I thought - but heavy - and expensice on tyres and discs from comments on the day.
The nutter going sideways in a £400 2.8i capri - was Matt daniels
uses £30 remoulds and plays it for laughs - top budget track tool.
Other cheap fun on the day was the 300 odd bhp pontiac trans am
add a mark 1 escort (albeit heavily modified)
For my cash I think westfield is the way to go - v.lightweight good power to weight.
cheers

This is my old machine.
Its had some serious work done on it. Around 150BHP at the wheels with a mad mad cam. Just having a complete engine rebuild at the moment with 3D mappable ECU. Should rev to around 8500 when we get it back.
Cost originally £1400, plus bits and bobs.. Rollage, seats, harnesses, mad cam..hmmm the list is getting longer !
I hillclimbed my old Impreza, and I know I'm gonna get flamed here, but I enjoy the Pug 205 much, much more , its just more entertaining to drive cos the limits are soo much lower.
I never thought I'd say it publically, but I have !
Cheers

Hi Chris, here's me going round Bentwaters. Remember me? I did'nt spin but I did hit some cones on spectators corner
Blackscooby. That really does sound like alot of fun mate but dunno if I'd have the budget to go that far with the mods.

Who said that I've got the funds ~ LOL
2 of us share it so everything is halved ~ but even so. Good laugh though. Haven't driven it since October 2001. Currently waiting to get it back from the engine people with the new ECU and rebuilt engine. Should be reasonably quick !

Looks good
there was one scooby in the novices session - a long way off the pace - buts thats cool - I am guessing you did the lunchtime session - yep I think I saw you go through the cones - At least you were trying - kinda got the impression some of the others were into parade pace, but it might have been my imagination, I know you guys have *a lot* more grip in the wet than I do.
Just for the record - the fiat barchetta, the porsche carrera and the trans am all span in front of me - I was lucky to miss the porsche .... (like £70,000) lucky !!!!
good setup at BW - shame it was the last one !

LAST ONE???????? No one told me, I knew they were having some problems but I had no idea it was that bad. May have to rethink buying a track day toy then.
Yea that was me hitting the cones... I really was giving it everything and passed almost everyone. Matt in the P1 was going for it too but he hit one of those airfield lights, popped a tyre and knackerd one of his 2 week old 18" rims. Poor sod.
