Default Just abou to collect my new toy Golf MK2 VR6...

I had a cheeky bid on it, never thought I'd get it, but did.

Oak Green MK2 Golf with 2.8 VR6, comes with uprated brakes, coilovers and some other goodies.

Has anyone owned or driven one of these? Is it going to be as mental as I'm hoping?

Planning on completely stripping it and creating a decent track tool.

Heavy front end, but if it is a professional build, and with the coilovers, you shouldnt suffer. Oak Green is the best colour.

Itll be reet then. Not sure about the core plug dilemma, is the leak drastic or a drip?

Thats bad news, more expense. Still, you seem to have got it for a pretty decent price.

Stick a supercharger on it then you will know about mental.
A mate had one on a Mk3 VR6 and was more than a match for most things on the road.

The 2.8 is a really nice drive ! Sounds gorgeous with a decent can on it, and through the gears it's a really nice puller ! Have had a couple of MK1's, a couple of MK2's and a MK3 VR6 and GTi 16V. Never drove a MK2 conversion but I imagine it will be a scream. It's quite a heavy lump but as someone has already said, sort the suspension out and get the MK3 brakes on there too. Oh and get some pictures up so I can drool !!!! Hope you enjoy it mate !!!

heavy lump and low power around 175bhp quite hard to get much more than 210 out of them mate, but still one of the best sounding motors out there they do also like the fuel
get yourself onto the vr6oc mate quite a few s/c and turbo ones on there and some good lads that really know these engines inside out that maybe able to help you get the most out of it.

Well just got home after a bit of a faff, but managed to get a 5 mile drive after the RAC man did a temporary repair on it.

WOW, it feels really well sorted with the brakes and suspension, engine pulls like a train from no revs at all. Oh and the sound..

It's not a pretty car (yet) by any means and it needs some work doing to it, few rust spots and the front wing needs a respray. Hopefully get it booked it to have some paint when the leak is sorted.

Ill get some pics up later if it stops raining, I felt like a teenager again yesterday, picked it up from having it repaired and just spent most of the day driving it around.

It's amazing how many people have wanted to talk to me about it already, pulled into the petrol garage and spent 15 mins talking to a guy that used to have one, filled up and then had to have another chat on the way out.

I always wanted a gti 16v big bumper. When I was 20 / 21 I had a Seat Ibiza SXI, which was a poor man's Golf Gti, and looked at trading it in for a red H plate Gti 16v. I love the shape, the style, and now the retro look of it.

I remember watching that Discovery program with Leepu and Bernie who used a Mk2 Golf Gti. At the start it looked great, especially with a subaru turbo running gear. I would love to have a M2K, looking standard, but with the running gear of an impreza !!!!

Cant wait to see the pics.

I fear the card is going to get a bashing, just booked it in to Stealth racing for a full service, dyno run and a "few bits".

Stealthy is the way forward, but if the car is going to be a track weapon its easier said than done! Cookstar, I am extremely jealous!!

The outside is going to remain pretty standard, will need to put 17's on it though, due to the brake kit I have been looking at.

But yeah the rollcage and lack of interior will be a giveaway.

The Mk2 is a great little car. We've got 4 of them in the family ranging from 1.6 Turbo Diesel to a 1.8T conversion, we're in the middle of. Engine currently mapped to 270 BHP

Looking forward to the pics

Great cars This is my mates one.

3 litre forged low compression engine, GT35 turbo etc It's nuts and keeps killing driveshafts. Sounds amazing though.

Looks like mine, but with different wheels, can you get high performance drive shafts made specially?

Some quick pics

As you can see the bodywork needs some attention. But I'll get there.
