Tickford Capri
#1
Just been for a spin in a mates Tickford, I was expecting it to be quick, but not that quick.
It will out accelerate a Audi TT225 and certainly impressed me, nearest thing I could compare it to was a 1990 911 Turbo I went in last year !
It was substantially quicker than my Volvo T5, felt quicker than a Fiat Coupe Turbo 20v
I am officially impressed and now need a go in a Scoob to compare !

Expect good used capri values to start rising as one of EVO magazine's owners has just bought and track prepared one - so they'll be getting alot of praise and coverage starting from the next issue!

I guy I used to work with owned a factory approved Turbo Technics 2.8i. Not a Tickford admittedly, but with similar power and specification (arounnd 250bhp) but without the slightly cheesy bodykit. I was (and still am) a fellow Capri owner at the time, and used to drive the car fairly frequently. The thing flew.
It was around this time I drove my first Impreza (around 1995), the Scoob was not as fast as the Capri.
Mark, just noticed you are from Wilmslow. Will try and post a pic, the car was a regular sight around your area until only last year. Who knows, you may have spotted it? Then again, you may not be a sad car spotter like meself

Macc lad actually. Well Gawsworth to be precise.
Work in Siddington. Had many an "experimental" run in the car down the A34 to the chippy in Alderley Edge.
Will post a pic once my computer mate tells me how to do such things.

turbo technics turbo installations on the ford v6 engines were single turbo on the 2.8 and twin turbo on the 2.9 with most powerful being a 280 bhp 2.9 fitted to the xr4x4 Janspeed also did single turbo conversions for the 2.8 capri and xr4i too but power was not massive (about 200 me thinks) but plenty in a car like that I saw a turbo technics xr4i the other week in need of head gasket for £150 I was so tempted to go get it and sling in another xr4x4 lsd and go everywhere on opposite lock cool motors the old fords

Turbo Technics also did a twin turbo for the 2.8 the top conversion for the 2.9 was the minker that had 320bhp and 348lbs/ft@2800 or 400-450bhp in race spec. They also did a minker2 engine that was a twin turbo verion of the 2.9 24v cosworth unit which is good for 550-600bhp .

The father of the lad who owns the Tickford has a mental 300+ bhp 24 valve Cosworth engined Capri with the Zakspeed arches which is a fantastic looking car and is even quicker than the Tickford.

Best source for Capris is Capri International Club monthly magazine. The clubs has about 20,000 members and always has a good selection of all types of Capris for sale. (You could try ringing the club as well). Classic Ford mag is worth a look as well.
Unfortunately, Capris make much better money abroad then they do in the UK where they have been stigmatised with the chestwig and medallion. Lots of the best ones have gone to the continent or to Ireland. I sold mine 4 years ago to a chap who travelled over from Ireland once a month buying up low mileage examples.
My advice would be to buy a decent car to start. Having driven a few 2.8s and 3.0s some of the cheap ropey ones would put you off for life. Unfortunately a decent one wont come easy or cheap. Had a look last year and gave up - fed up with sellers wasting my time blagging their car was immaculate when it was a pile of scrap. Not much fun when you drive half the length of the country to see it! grrr!
