anyone got 996 c4s or 997 or 996 turbo?

I've 2 years experience of the 996 turbo.
It was a good car but in the end I realised it wasn't for me.
Yes it's bloody fast, but I also found it bloody clinical and I don't think I'd ever go back to a Porsche turbo again (GT2 aside).
The engine noise is bordering on the plain and boring, and the only way to make it half decent is with an aftermarket exhaust but you'll pay a couple grand for anything worthwhile.
On the whole though, it's very capable as a refine GT continent crushing car.
In fact I had more fun in my Exige that had 210bhp less than the Porsche.

I was going to get one just over a year and a half ago. Looked into it and found that Porsche's aren't quite a bullet proof as they make out.
In fact, Zip106's post regarding a possible expensive engine repair put me right off them. I'd have a new one, or one that was 1 or 2 years old, but allas, not within my spending power.
Saw an awsome 997 Gen 2 in Meteor Grey this week sat outside Kendal Porsche. Now what body part can I sell to pay for that?

decided to stick with the M's. The difference between my 46 and a c4s or 997 just doesnt justify the extra cost.
I have not yet ruled out the e90 m. but i think the depreciation on that will be killer.
Might as well ploug 10k into my 36 then and go get some scalps

You'll need more than 10k in an E36 to claim the scalp of a 996tt....
But, in all honesty, I'd have the C4S over the turbo. (in fact I'd have a C2S over either of them!)

I was 100% Porsche for a long time, I have recently started to fall out of love with them due to them.... Well just not having the spark compared to other marques in the same price bracket.
A 996 c4s is the 996 to have IMO, that asides I am considering an R8 v8 now, which hopefully go some way towards showing my recent feelings towards Porsche.

the 36 already embarrasses most porkers on track already. But thats probably more to do with the drivers. The better track prepped the porsche appears to be, generally the slow it is on track.

Didn't evo try and reengineer an E36 to try and get a sub-8 lap at the Ring? They spent a lot, and used some of the best Ring drivers. Not sure they ever did it.

have been running our 997 C4S Cab for a year now and love it. You have to have the PSE option if you buy one as the standard exhaust is too quiet.
I would always opt for a 997 as the interior is much nicer than the 996 which now looks too tired.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how the on-road experience differs between something like a 996C4S and something front engine and 4wd?
Big question: Can a rear engine car really ever be as reassuring and predicable to drive with speed and confidence on varied real roads/conditions? thanks, j
