Default Failed Diesel pump. £2k repair cost!!

Hi, my 2004 Accord 2.2 i-CTDi has been taking ages to crank, but once it starts it runs fine.
I took it to Honda to diagnose the fault. After carrying out a fuel pressure test it turns out it's a faulty pressure valve that's causing the fuel to drain back to the tank. Hence the reason it takes ages to start the car because there is no pressure being held in the system.

Honda say i need a new pump, and this will cost £2k for the part and fitting!! wtf?!!
Are there any other options to sort this issue out? I'd rather not pay £2k if i can help it.

Hi mate. A diesel specialist might be able to replace the valve on it's own. I know this can be done on vauxhalls that have similar problems with their pumps.
Good luck!

Can you not just fit a non return valve in the fuel line to stop it draining back?

if fuel is leaking back, that usually indicates the injectors not the pump. Personally I would take it to a bosch diesel specialist and get them to perform full diagnostics (maybe a leak off test as well). What happens when it runs, is it down on power (limp mode when you hit a certain rev range?)

Without sounding like a doommonger, if the pump has gone, then generally it means a full system flush is required as well as the pumps break up if they go which also damages the injectors.
