yeah make sure the central lockin/alarm etc is all working ok, they get water under the passenger side footwell in the CCU and it knacks it up.

Check for forehead indentations on the top surface of the steering wheel. This is generally caused by the owners falling asleep at the wheel due to them being a seriously crap drivers car. Even the hot versions are seriously dull.

Rust on the bottom of the doors is a biggish issue and the the gearboxes can be notchy.

I have a A3 TDi 130 Sport for a runaround. Its actually quite nice to drive, bit boring and dated to look at though.
Ive never had any issues with it and its done 103k. I get a range of 500 miles per tank.
As mentioned, rust on the bottom of doors is a common problem.

Which engine does it have is it a 1.9Tdi?
I believe the 2.0 TDi's start at 140 but I could be wrong

I know what you mean- ive driven a few of the old shape models (including S3) and the steering appears to be made out of wood and elastic bands.

Nice cars otherwise.
