My wifes car APpreciating?
So what with increase fuel, insurance prices and general all round motor expenses rising, the Aygo (and most probably all other simular cars) seem to be benefitting
My wife bought her 08 Platinum for £5,200 in Sept 10. It was a 1 owner car with 23k and FSH from Toyota. Bought from a non franchised dealer and in the 7 months we have had it, its been perfect.
It'll be 3 years old in June and mileage now up to 28k so was just looking through Pistonheads for simular examples trying to see what they were selling for. Just on the first 2 pages i saw these

Looks like its all good for Aygo owners!
I actually love driving this little roller skate - £40 to fill up, 400 miles to a tank, £20 per year RFL, needs 2 new tyres soon £45 each for OEM Continentals....

Yeah I noticed the links were all dealer/garage cars. I doubt you'll get that ££ private or as a trade in - BUT at least the car is reliable and not dropping like a stone in value.

This phenomenon is less to do with rising fuel costs and more to do with good old fashioned economics. If demand for 3 year old Aygos is greater than the demand for new ones 3 years ago, there will be a shortage and prices will become firmer or possibly even rise. This is just as likely to happen with an Aygo as it is with any other model.
However it is less likely to happen with something like a Fiat Punto, where the number sold new is artificially high thanks to 0% finance, yet 3 years later the equivalent demand isn't there and prices constantly head downwards.
New car sales are down as more people go secondhand, which bolsters used values.
Final point - early April is the most expensive time of the year to buy most models as there is more money in the economy for spending on cars thanks to annual bonuses etc. Conversely, 3rd week of November is the cheapest time for most models, except 4x4s which are arguably cheapest in the summer. The annual ups and downs are easiest to see on something like a used MX5 or Boxster.

Cocker, sorry to rain on your parade but Pistonheads isn't where your average Aygo buyer will be looking. Have a looksee on Autotrader for much more choice and big difference in prices. They are starting from £5k from trade sellers.
