Default Audi TT 225

Any hairdressers on here know when the cambelt needs changing - years &/or miles? Any idea of how much damage the wallet is likely to take as well?

Cheers, TX.

Same as Leon Cupra R/Audi S3 - believe book says 60k miles or 5 years, but most people have it done a lot earlier.

When I had my Cupra R I had it done at 40k - set me back £250 at a local garage. You'll probably get charged around the £300 mark I should think.

I think you'll find the book says something like 120000 miles!!!! (Leon Cupra here but same engine)

I left mine till 90k car almost 10 years old (might have been done before but no evidence), and had it changed. Garage made no mention that it was knackered though, but I had the water pump done same time (essential and only adds about £30 as its a cambelt off job to do) and that was starting to break up! Had it replaced with a metal impellered one rather than the plastic it was.

Alot of garages will tell you that a metal impellored water pump doesn't exist and the new plastic ones are better than the old, they might be, but the metal ones do exist and will never break up like plastic so get one of these. Available from Awesome GTI for around £35

Is it a soft top or coupe? i do like the coupes. Ironically my friend who bought the Merc sl500 AMG while back has sold it, having had two accidents in it (only one her fault) and is now running about in a nearly new dk green TT convertible having had a 997 Carrera 4 on long term loan she went for the TT - woman's logic, i was gutted!

Some friends are selling one soon, its a black mk1, think its a 225 (don't want a 180 or a Cab), 2002, not sure how to value then tbh, think with the fuel, road tax and insurance its a bit of a buyers market at the moment, its easy to assume they are desirable and easy to sell but there seem to be a lot for sale that aren't moving.
