I don't have personal experience of the MG mate, but it came up the other day when talking to a mate and he mentioned someone he knew with one and said it was sore on petrol. Couple of threads after searching. Depends what you call bad, and i'm sure they sound nice with the V6.

Not sure on what other options you have. There's a few of the original clio 172s or 106 gti's, that's probably what i'd be looking at, and hope they'd last!
