Bought a 530d
Well after crashing my scoob directline bought me this.
Cassette player, cd multichanger, sat nav, notes, phone all voice activated, premium sound system, air conditioning, auxiliary heating (warms car at set times I think with out engine running?) climate control, cruise control, electric heated leather seats, electric windows x 4 auto open and close, electric sunroof auto open and close, electric steering wheel adjustment, All menory set, auto dip rear view mirror, rain sensing window wipers, electronic stability program, traction control, 10 air bags, xenon headlight with auto adjusters, angle eye side lights, parking sensors front and back, M Sports package including 265/35/18 rear 235/35/18 front.
Plus lots more but to much to rember, it's different in ever way as expected. It's shocked me how quick it is for an oil burner, just put you foot down and it keeps going. Not as quick or fast as the scoob, but i dint buy for out right speed. No rattles, bangs and what not even though it's on a 51 plate.
I think it's full name is 530ds with M Sport pack, and every option almost ticked.
Ho and it's finished in Imola red look nice, but no pics as yet.

So it's an e60 model?
Personally I like imola red, not many around.
Don't forget less than 500 squids buys you a remap and some more power should you need it.
I had a new shape 530d as a demo loan over a weekend and must say I found the engine a peach. I was caning the engine all the time and it was still 'tight' but managed to get 30 mpg.
Rookymatt is a member on this forum who also happens to be a very experienced bmw tech, should you need any help with it.
Enjoy.

One thing the back end is a tad lower say 10mm's or so, is this mormal. If not just a spring change i would have thought.
Def going the remap route, removing swirl flaps, and ERG clean or delete unsure on that and at the same time clean inlet manifold.
Will get some picks up maybe weekend weather depending.

Imola red! I would litterally make love to this colour if it was possible. The best colour for the E39 in my opinion.
Delete the swirl flaps and the car will lose throttle response and economy.
However you have the piece of mind that it won't try to eat them.
New inlet manifolds produced by BMW for the e39 530d have uprated swirls. food for thought.
Sounds well spec'd, but as i'm sure someone will point out.
THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICS!! HEHEHE

Scoobydoo, I absolutely love the e39 shape and think its a modern classic. Well looked after ones ie not chavved up ones still look just right. In many ways the new 5 series f10 is a modern interpretation of the e39, thats why I love both. I hope it gives you trouble free motoring.
Matt, you are very welcome and thanks for all your help. The cel has stayed off since I last spoke to you btw

Rookymatt, couple of questions mate..
- What sort of economy loss is typical when deleting the swirl flaps??
- The new IM you mention with the uprated swirls... does this eliminate the problem of them breaking up and being chewed by the engine?? If so, out of interest, how much is the replacement/uprated IM to buy??
Cheers,
Grant

You will lose probably about 3mpg, but more importantly you will lose throttle response, as the swirls are actually doing a job of keeping the intake tract smaller for better throttle intial response.
New manifolds aren't cheap, circa £400 IIRC.
Yes they are uprated, the pins for the flaps have been beefed up. Plus they are a piece of cake to replace.

Abit over cast hence dull pics, i have just fitted some LED's in the number plate light's at the back. I'm also waiting for some 6000k LED's for the angle eyed side lights, and some for the fog's so the front will be nice and white. I have got to send the head lights off for refurb, well exchange base as the adjusters dont work proper, and fit some 6000k bulbs.
Few other little niggles to fix apart from that well chuffed wi it.
Just needs a proper clean in side

Remove the egr, soak it in carb/brake cleaner. REFIT IT, the egr is there for a reason.
Very nice looking car you have!!
Just fix the broken cup holder eh?! hehe

I no it's there for a reason, but as it's just to reburn gasers. Thought it would be good to remove, loads of scoobs have done this as well as BM's.
Glad you like

Thanks for the info Matt, its not a cheap option, but if the revised IM are swirl-failure resistant then if the x30d is a long term/high mileage purchase then I'd rather spend decent cash to prevent potential problems along the line.
To the OP, your car is exactly the spec I would want an E39 530d with.. I think they look mega in Imola red, but decent spec'd examples are difficult to find. You might have mentioned it, but whats the mileage on the car??
Cheers,
Grant

Probably does sound high to most people, but to be fair my old man had an E39 530i (petrol) that had done over 180k when he traded it in... but the thing was still going strong at that point, its part of the reason that I'm such a big E39 fan, they're fantastic cars to own/drive.

Next doors got a touring version, R plate nothing less then 300000. My bro had a 320d so 4 pot, bought at 150000 sold to a mate at 180000 and now it's got just over 200000, and mi bro fitted one of them eBay dti modules. The miles don't put me off, when looked after it shunt be a problem. When the avg is 12k a yr this one works out at just over 16k.
All feels solid drives sport on, no bangs nocks and what not. Hopefully i will get lots of trouble free miles.

Lovely mate. As said.... Top spec on a top motor. I'm more in to the Grey one's but with this spec. I'd go Red. Don't like my Mica Red Scoob, But with the History And Condition of it.... Couldn't say no.

The uprated swirl flaps DO fail they are just less prone than the paddle/stem earlier ones.I would strongly suggest you remove them and replace with billet blanks (£6 each) It doesnt affect the running at all and there is no difference in MPG.I removed mine on my 2006 E60 535d and it still returned 40mpg and had no loss of throttle response whatsoever. It is a very inexpensive 'peace of mind' mod that costs far less than a lunched engine and can be done in a couple of hours.

Lovely looking car, very nice! Always liked the Sport bumpers and parallel alloys.
These old e39's are old motors now, but still really capable. I've got the B10 Alpina version, and am still finding it bloody difficult to find someting under £25k to replace it with after nearly 3 years.
Only niggle for me is the squeaky door seals: can be remedied with some funny German sounding stuff from Ebay.
