New Mondeo
I've just bought a 59 plate Mondeo Titanium with sports pack (18inch wheels and spoiler) and it's very nice indeed.
DAB radio is cool
Bluetooth phone intergration is useful
Boot is huge, in fact car is huge
There you go, my in depth car review.

Well, it's quieter, has more room, does more mpg and will tow the white trailer!
Therefore the Mondeo is a batter car based upon my criteria.

Is Trout not taking the bait?
We have an 04 TDCi 130 estate, its done 115k miles and apart from the DMF and clutch replacement last year its been faultless.
Good choice.
BTW, have you thought about an audition for Top Gear.

the older mondeo was better on tyres just ring your local ford garage and ask from 2008 on tyre problems he has the 140 auto estate and every 4000 miles about the tyres need to be replaced he was that worried when he contacted motability there put him through to the fleet department and there aware of the tyre issues

Stugsey - your Brother must drive like a complete tool to be getting those sort of miles out of tyres.
Davyboy - worry not, my Dad's had his 57 plate Tit X TDCi 140 with sport pack from new. He has just put some new tyres on it at 45k miles which is his 4th pair of fronts which stands his rubber at 15k miles for every pair.
I was driving his the other day - loved it. My current car is a 54 plate Mondy TDCi 130 and his is in a different league in every way. Bigger, far quicker and much better quality. I'll be taking first refusal on his

4k miles from tyres in a 140bhp car - either being ragged mercilessly all day, aggressively track raced every day or got wheels so out of align that the car may well split into four separate pieces at any moment.

I've the same titanium one too. staggeringly good car and very well equiped. loving the heated front windscreen in this weather and DAB etc.
In fact I looked at 5 series BMW's and Audis- but they were obviously going to be older and running costs higher as I had a cash budget and was buying used. lovely cars but they just didn't grab me. I also wanted a huge cheap family car and no high ownership costs.
love the servicing for pence. £149 for the last major service.
had the DMF fail, but covered under warrenty.
my tyres are lasting perfectly fine, as I don't drive like a chav.
i've been driving over 20 years and hated fords with a passion. always a german fanboy ! i think they have got their act together in the last few yrs and produce decent, good looking cars.

Some pretty wild claims on here!
Ive owned my 1.8 tdci Titanium X hatch 2 years. Front tyres lasted 19k and the rears have 3mm left at 24k on 17inch wheels (factory fitted Michelin Excellence).
Mpg around town for my manual is 36 - 38mpg and mid to late 40's on the motorway.
The only fault on my car was an air con leak due to a faulty condensor, huntingdon Ford had replaced quite a few on other cars and disgnosed and fixed it without any hassle.
The one oddity with Mk4 mondeo's is that the rear brake pads wear out really quickly compared to other cars ive owned. Mine were 80% worn at 24k and a lot of owners are having to change them before that.
I owned an A3 S-Line before it and didn't feel i was going down market or sacrificing quality when buying the Mondeo. I loathed the mk3's and vowed never to own a mundano .... Funny how things change

Off topic but my Astra (mk5 1.9CDTi 150PS) chewed through front disks in under 30k miles. I was told that's normal.
Current 335d which has almost twice the power has disks that usually last over 60k miles.
I guess Ford and Vx use brake disks made of cheese?

I'm about 34- 38 around town, very hilly place though. easily into the 50's on motorway though. in fact if its zero'd on a run it'll hit 56 mpg or so, which for a big old bus laiden down is good.
I remember some yrs ago owning a vw passat and but driving a Mk 4 mondeo of a friends for a weekend. cars were just so different- the vw being soooo much better. the ford just wasn't right. it was trying, hard, but just not good enough.
mk 5 mondeo, is a world apart.
thank god I still have an impreza for fun though.
