Thumbs up Porsche Driving Experience - Silverstone

Had a session at the above on Monday afternoon (wedding anniversary present) - what a blast! You can chose what you want to do from the website http://www.porsche.com/silverstone/en/ then tailor it on the day to what you want to do. I went for the Trackcraft session in a 911 Carrera S running the ceramic brakes. You get the full 90 minutes doing all the driving yourself, with just you and the instructor so amazing value for money I reckon.

Have never driven a 911 before (and it's most unlikely I'll ever be able to afford a current one) but what a piece of kit! Was easy to get going pretty quickly and play with the handling/throttle in the corners - lightening throttle response took some getting used to after driving the RB5 for so many years. Got understeer if on the gas too early but wait for the right moment and it just powered out of the corners like a rocket. The instructor was good, really relaxed and explained stuff well so all in all a fantastic experience. Would recommend it to anyone. Even got to do a big smoky donut on the low friction surface, Top Gear stylee - which was nice!

Sounds good.

Were you allowed to thrash the car? Heard a lot of experience days limit revs / speed.

Done a few Audi R8 days, and you can go as quick as you or the car can go.

I obviously can't speak for this one but I have done quite a few recently and they encourage you to go faster all the time. I did a 911 turbo experience a couple of months ago and I was allowed to overtake other cars and was doing 155 mph at one point.

The Porsche experience has no rev limits (was hitting the rev limiter in 2nd on one short section as told to do by the instructor as it saved a pointless shift into 3rd for a second or so) and you're encouraged to use all the road to achieve the best line etc. The instructor did 2 laps at my request but other than that I was driving for the whole 90 minutes. I'm still reliving it in my head now and have been boring anyone who pauses long enough to hear about it at work...

Basically worth every penny and better than sex :-) (or at least lasts longer!)

On the Porsche one - they have a special car control session where they teach to control the car with traction control on and traction control off.

Or you can take your own car!

Trout - can't imagine what it must be like to run a GT3 on the road, must have a lot of self control :-)

Thumbs up

I did the trackcraft in a 997 S and then drove both the GT2 and GT3 last July for my 30th. The GT3 has always been my favorite car and this confirmed why, was absolutely brilliant and was none of the short shifting mentioned like other driving experiences.

I even preferred the GT3 to the GT2 which probably struggled to get into it's stride on such a short circuit to be fair. That would have come into it's own on the full Silverstone circuit. Favorite bit was the passenger lap with the instructor in the GT3, there was me thinking I was trying..

Couple of piccies from my wife's facebook (only piccies I could find).
