Default Ex-Plod Volvo V70 T5 estate

Quite fancy a new workhorse, and been looking at ex-fuzz Volvo V70 estates.

Seem to be a good buy: 2005-06 models going for £3k or so with 140k odd miles. Should tow well, and the comfort appeals to me, as does the power: I do quite like the Q car approach, and it wouldn't look too flash nor too pikey when turning up on a job.

Service histories stack up well, white is the new black, not too bothered about the fuel costs, and also not too bothered about the fact that they have probably been knocked around a bit, as it will be carrying tools and digger buckets anyway. And to be honest, I'm past polishing cars and crying when they get a shopping trolley dink.

Good idea, or avoid like the plague?

they will have had top servicing to keep them in good condition, but they will have been thrashed. Also if its got 140k it wouldn;t have been a lemon otherwise it would have been replaced long before that milage.

if your wanting to use it to run tools, digger buckets etc then would seem to be a good option.

Where do you get them from?

Do they have holes in the roof from the light bars and loads of holes in the dash where all the equipment has been screwed on with self tappers.

As they have never been PLG'd by DVLA you'll find the Tax Disc price will not be the same as a normally registered car.

If you look hard you can find undercover ones which have never been stickered and usually only have lights in the grills. Holes inside will always be present unfortunately

ex fuzz or not the v70 is a great car

my old man has one, 55plate, just clocking over 180k and still pulls like a train.
his is the D5 2.5 diesel 185bhp i believe.

he never checks anything! even i top up his screenwash!

never given any trouble (he picked it up with 18k on the clock) not serviced as well as the fuzz's will be either

ideal for what you have described. huge boot and a hard wearing interior.

You think police cars are well serviced? By and large, that's just a myth. A few forces used to maintain them themselves to fairly high standards but these days servicing and repairs are mostly subbed out and not at all well looked after. Well, not as well as everyone thinks they are. Also bear in mind that although it's done x miles, the engine has been running for a lot longer. These cars can sit around for ages with the engine running. Having said all that, I'd buy one at the right price. Love 'em.

They are also non standard, mostly suspension, so expect bigger bills for specialist parts, bottom arms wishbones etc etc.
